The Information Channel Felist.Com -*-------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEWS Russian WildNature ------------------------------- Issue (N 15) - December 2002 ================================================= Happy New Year ! ================================================= Russian WildNature (http://rwn.boom.ru) Year back I have wrote the page about Water Avens (Geum rivale). (http://rwn.boom.ru/plants/Geum_rivale_e.html) And on spring I have got the question: what the flower is seen on the second plan? It is similar well known Common Chickweed, but is larger. I have promised then to tell in more detail about this beautiful plant, but has lingered for known reasons. I finish year by returning of this debt. It is necessary to pay attention to this beautiful plant from Pink Family (Caryophyllaceae) (http://rwn.boom.ru/plants/Caryophyllaceae_e.html), when its asterisk-like flowers shine in the wood -- Greater Stitchwort (Stellaria holostea) (http://rwn.boom.ru/plants/Stellaria_holostea_e.html). Its similarity to Common Chickweed (Stellaria media) is not casual: they are the nearest relatives, two species of the same genus. Best wishes in new year! ================================================= That is all. See you later. Yours sincerely C.
