Extending a helping hand to Chechnya | Russian regions to Chechnya

Chechnya and Chelyabinsk region strengthen ties

Chelyabinsk region is one of the Russian entities that established friendly ties with Chechnya long time ago although it is situated far away from the republic. Earlier, it was engaged in rendering humanitarian aid to Chechnya but now mutually beneficial cooperation is in the foreground. The enterprises of the two entities have established strong ties and they express desire to work directly since this saves money and the cost of production is less. The Chechen Presidents envoy to the Chelyabinsk region plays an important role in establishing these ties. For one, the enterprises in the two regions have recently signed three agreements to supply 50-60 million rubles worth of building materials to Chechnya and cast iron. Trade volume grew significantly in the first quarter after signing an agreement between the Chelyabinsk Company Mechil and Chechen Company YUKT. The trade volume between the two entities was 60-70 million rubles in 2004 but it exceeded 100-110 million rubles in the first quarter of 2008 alone.

Ramzan Kadyrov is confident that the current situation in the republic is stable, and the process of restoration and construction in Chechnya is gaining momentum. Political and socio-economic situation in our republic is stable, the restoration and construction processes in the republic are accelerating, Kadyrov said at a working meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Friday. According to Kadyrov, not only many buildings are under construction in the republic, but also many buildings are under restoration with a focus on buildings in the highland districts this year. The Chechen president noted that the highland districts had traditionally the well-developed agricultural production and the restoration of these districts is very important. Medvedev was interested in the vacations of Chechen children and the run-up to the forthcoming parliamentary elections in the republic. Kadyrov informed the president that many Chechen children spend their vacations in the Russian neighbouring regions every year, particularly in the Stavropol territory, the Krasnodar territory and other Russian regions. Though we have better places than in other regions of the country, the Chechen president said. Kadyrov elaborated that he meant the highland districts of the republic first of all. Medvedev agreed that some places in the Chechen highland districts are very beautiful, and it would be good for children to vacation not only in other Russian regions, but also at home. This would also be useful for the republican economy, the Russian president said. In reply to Medvedevs question about the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Kadyrov noted that the republican authorities decided to shift from a one-chamber to two-chamber parliament. It will be better for the republic on the whole to have a one- chamber parliament, Kadyrov said. 23 July 2008  Harvesting completed
The state farm in the village of Kharkovskoe, the Shelkovsky region is a small holding, having 8 permanent workers who are joined by 6 others during harvesting. The farm borrows equipment to gather harvest since it has just one harvester with small capacity. The farm cultivates a small number of hectares. The winter crop harvesting was completed by the middle of July. Director of the state farm, Rashid Ayubov says that the farms gross production is a hundred tons and that each hectare produces 20 centers (a center is100 kg metric). Last year, only 15 centers were gathered from each hectare. Abundant snow, heavy rains and most importantly, timely planting had helped to increase yield this year The state farms major problem is spare parts. To get them a farm owner has to travel to a market in the neighboring Dagestan and this happens often. The present centralized spare parts supply system is unhelpful, R. Ayubov says. He, however, remains confident about future improvement.

Chechen history

Chechens one the worlds most ancient people

Chechens (self-assumed name " nokhchi" ) are the world" s most ancient people with unique anthropological type and culture. They are the largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus (more than 1 million people). The neighbouring Ingush people are very similar in genotype, culture and religion. Together they form the Vainakh people related by blood, common history, territorial, economic and cultural links and language. Vainakhs (Chechens, Ingushes) are aborigines of the Caucasus and speak Nakh, a language that belongs to the Iberian-Caucasian language family. The Vainakh (Chechen) ethnic and cultural complex was formed on the basis of various aboriginal people. Historically the Chechen community was formed as multi-ethnic and it kept absorbing ethnic elements of nomadic people and neighbouring high-landers, the evidence of which being the non-Vainakh origin of many Chechen clans. The history of Chechnya can be described as a continuing struggle for freedom and independence against outside enemies, in which periods of prosperity alternated with defeats and new attempts to revive the statehood. In the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries) Chechens had to take up arms to defend themselves against invaders from Rome, Sasanid Iran, Arab Caliphate and Khazar Kaganate. The centuries-long struggle forged a military union of highlanders and laid the foundation for their statehood.
