Chechnya and Chelyabinsk region strengthen ties

Chelyabinsk region is one of the Russian entities that established friendly ties with Chechnya long time ago although it is situated far away from the republic. Earlier, it was engaged in rendering humanitarian aid to Chechnya but now mutually beneficial cooperation is in the foreground. The enterprises of the two entities have established strong ties and they express desire to work directly since this saves money and the cost of production is less. The Chechen Presidents envoy to the Chelyabinsk region plays an important role in establishing these ties. For one, the enterprises in the two regions have recently signed three agreements to supply 50-60 million rubles worth of building materials to Chechnya and cast iron. Trade volume grew significantly in the first quarter after signing an agreement between the Chelyabinsk Company Mechil and Chechen Company YUKT. The trade volume between the two entities was 60-70 million rubles in 2004 but it exceeded 100-110 million rubles in the first quarter of 2008 alone.

The construction of Russias largest mosque in the centre of Grozny will be completed on the 23rd of August, the birthday of the former Chechen President Akhmat Kadyrov. I examined the mosque under construction and studied carefully how the work is going on and I am satisfied, Ramzan Kadyrov said. The Workers do their best and the Mosque could be shown proudly to any religious or government leader, Ramzan Kadyrov said. Unfortunately, when Bolsheviks destroyed the mosques in Grozny, the residents of the republic had no opportunity to pray in a single main mosque, and some tragic events have delayed the construction of the mosque, the Chechen President noted. He said that the mosque has accommodation for 10 thousand people. The mosque will be an invitation card for Moslems across Russia. There are mosques in other Russian regions but there is no such a mosque like this. And we are proud that we could build this mosque, Ramzan Kadyrov said. The complex includes the office of the Spiritual Department of Moslems of Chechnya, library, hotel and Islamic University. There are many mosques in Chechnya. There is an Orthodox church too. We have created conditions so that people of all nationalities, Russians, Tatars, Kumyks, Hogais and other could observe their religious rituals, The Chechen President said.

Chechen history

Chechens one the worlds most ancient people

Chechens (self-assumed name " nokhchi" ) are the world" s most ancient people with unique anthropological type and culture. They are the largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus (more than 1 million people). The neighbouring Ingush people are very similar in genotype, culture and religion. Together they form the Vainakh people related by blood, common history, territorial, economic and cultural links and language. Vainakhs (Chechens, Ingushes) are aborigines of the Caucasus and speak Nakh, a language that belongs to the Iberian-Caucasian language family. The Vainakh (Chechen) ethnic and cultural complex was formed on the basis of various aboriginal people. Historically the Chechen community was formed as multi-ethnic and it kept absorbing ethnic elements of nomadic people and neighbouring high-landers, the evidence of which being the non-Vainakh origin of many Chechen clans. The history of Chechnya can be described as a continuing struggle for freedom and independence against outside enemies, in which periods of prosperity alternated with defeats and new attempts to revive the statehood. In the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries) Chechens had to take up arms to defend themselves against invaders from Rome, Sasanid Iran, Arab Caliphate and Khazar Kaganate. The centuries-long struggle forged a military union of highlanders and laid the foundation for their statehood.
