03 July 2008 Veterinary attracts young specialists
Head of the Gudermess regional veterinary lab Amir Abdulkhadjiev has all reasons to be in a good mood. From January his lab has accomplished almost 22 thousand original studies on contagious abortion instead of the planned 21 thousand. His laboratory includes 9 personnel. Their average age is around 22. Amir Abdulkhadjiev is delighted that more young people decide to follow into his footsteps and that he can pass his experience to younger generation. They also work in the field and explain dangers of various diseases to local people, visit markets and local villages to offer consultations and diagnose animals. All this is done to make sure that samples of a fallen animal should be quickly delivered to the laboratory. The main veterinary office of Chechnya provides the Gudermess lab with equipment and medicines. Several animal farms are expected to be opened in the region shortly.

02 July 2008  There can be no library without readers Libraries across Russia, and Chechnya is not an exception, are holding various conferences, gatherings and other events as part of the Year of the Family in this country. The central library of the Chechen capital Grozny holds sporadic kickbacks of parents or whole families. For instance, the Sirievs the head of this family passed away several years ago, and his wife is bringing up four kids. All of them are library regulars and, as Director of the library Olias Eldaeva told us, joined a very interesting discussion about literature and art, life and family values some time ago. There are plenty of similar examples, so it is not surprising that the Grozny region took one of the first places on a festival that brought together most reading families in the republic. Regional libraries are planning to hold a large family conference which may be devoted to a recent book about Chechnya by Adiz Kusaev. They do all they can to attract more readers. Ms Eldaeva says that the printed book cannot be killed by the Internet. The real education is to broaden ones outlook by reading, as it helps to learn about far away places in Russia and abroad. Olias Eldaeva is also content that regional libraries at present receive books on a more systematic basis. Last year, they got about 1300 books on local studies, reference materials, fiction and historical literature. So she is sure that soon libraries will be able to provide all kinds of books for all kinds of readers.

01 July 2008  Pupils Holidays in the Shelkovsk region
This year, pupils summer holidays in the Shelkovsk region kickstarted as early as spring. According to the official at the regional education department Nura Eltaeva, since March a health resort in the downtown of the city of Nalchik in the neighboring Kabardino-Balkar republic welcomed groups of kids who came there for a three-week period. Those groups numbered about a hundred or a hundred and fifty students. They arrived there not only to have a rest, but also to continue their education. Local teaching staff accompanied by Shelkovsk region school teachers formed teaching groups from pupils of the same age. In summer, when school is over, pupils can fully enjoy themselves and make some new acquaintances. The first group has already come back home from Nalchik. The second - which includes 130 pupils will arrive soon. Local authorities in the Shelkovsk region do not only try to pamper pupils on their holidays but also to provide quality sport school facilities suitable for both school and wider community use.

Chechen history

Chechens one the worlds most ancient people

Chechens (self-assumed name " nokhchi" ) are the world" s most ancient people with unique anthropological type and culture. They are the largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus (more than 1 million people). The neighbouring Ingush people are very similar in genotype, culture and religion. Together they form the Vainakh people related by blood, common history, territorial, economic and cultural links and language. Vainakhs (Chechens, Ingushes) are aborigines of the Caucasus and speak Nakh, a language that belongs to the Iberian-Caucasian language family. The Vainakh (Chechen) ethnic and cultural complex was formed on the basis of various aboriginal people. Historically the Chechen community was formed as multi-ethnic and it kept absorbing ethnic elements of nomadic people and neighbouring high-landers, the evidence of which being the non-Vainakh origin of many Chechen clans. The history of Chechnya can be described as a continuing struggle for freedom and independence against outside enemies, in which periods of prosperity alternated with defeats and new attempts to revive the statehood. In the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries) Chechens had to take up arms to defend themselves against invaders from Rome, Sasanid Iran, Arab Caliphate and Khazar Kaganate. The centuries-long struggle forged a military union of highlanders and laid the foundation for their statehood.
