If the sun is on the banner

The book headlined If the sun is on the banner by a prominent journalist Said-Magomed Bashirov will be published in May. The book narrates the history of the republic of Ingushetia. The genre is not fiction but a detailed analysis of the republics development. Ingushetia, being almost in a conflict zone, managed not only to avoid decline but to achieve certain progress in social and economic development. The author provides living examples and argumentation to refute all allegations concerning the involvement of Ingushetia into the conflict. Said-Magomed Bashirov shows us that the republic is a blessed region, a full subject of the Russian Federation. Quite soon it may become an example for other regions. Today Ingushetia is the most economically and socially developed region of the Russian south. The region demonstrates high birth rates and low mortality.

Exhibitions and Fairs to Add to Boosting Small Business in Chechnya

Employees with Chechnyas Trade and Industry Chamber jointly with their colleagues from the Government Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship have frequently stressed that exhibitions and fairs may add significantly to boosting small business in Chechnya. That is why they take an active part in all relevant regional and all-Russian events and are also keen to hold a variety of fairs and exhibitions in the republic of Chechnya. Thus, an exhibition of Chechen manufacturers and services was recently held in the capital Grozny the third such an event that has been organized in the past three years. The infrastructure-friendly business incubator with the Government Committee became a venue for the exhibition, which had a great success. More than fifty entrepreneurs from around Chechnya took part in the exhibition to showcase their production, including construction materials, timber products and food-stuffs. This time, - says Zarema Chinkhoyeva, spokeswoman for Chechnyas Trade and Industry Chamber, - entrepreneurs showed more zeal to take part in the exhibition as compared with that of last years, realizing that they are bound to benefit from the event. They saw for themselves that taking part in similar events may well pave the way for exchange of expertise, product promotion and conclusion of a raft of agreements on joint business activities and would-be supplies. 03 April 2008  We are For Healthy Way of Life A seminar named We are for healthy way of life and dedicated to AIDS prevention was recently held at the secondary school located in the Grozny local districts village of Gikalo. Principal Adlan Paskayev said that schoolchildren were lectured by spokespeople for the Republican Committee on Youth Affairs something that considerably added to holding the attention of audience. Khulimat Nuradinova, a biology teacher and a winner of the Best Teacher-2006 contest, also took part in the seminar all the more so that it was the biology topic dominated the discussions. By the way, last year saw Khulimat Nuradinova take charge of similar seminar on the republican level. Schoolchildren took an active part in the seminar by asking plenty of questions and willingly answering unsigned questionnaires. Looking through what he called serious answers, Adlan Paskayev concluded that schoolchildren had perfectly realized that the problem in question was really topical. And it is no wonder because for the Gikalo school, the AIDS prevention has long become an outstanding issue that tends to top the agenda of discussions between teachers and pupils. The Committee spokespeople said that the seminar materials will soon be available on the Committees website so that the Chechen people could scrutinize them and see for themselves the advantages of healthy way of life.

03 April 2008  Red Book: Nature Protection and Patriotic Document
Chechnya has published its republican Red Book containing the names of the hundreds of animals and plants that are under danger of extinction. The publication represents significant event because it is the result of titanic collaboration between scholars and workers of the republican Committee on ecology and gives the chance to protect and restore the local flora and fauna. Speaker of the Chechen parliament, Dukuvakha Abdurakhmanov has said that the Red Book evidences stability and health of the Chechen society. According to the Chairman of the Committee on ecology, Isa Shakhtamirov, Chechnya has recently been the only republic without its own red Book in the North Caucasus if not in the whole of Russia. Work on the book started in 2005, immediately after the creation of the ecology Committee. Experts from the Chechen State University, who for many years had tried in vain to publish a book, are closely involved in the work, which began from scratch in 2005 since all the materials collected by experts for many years had been destroyed, including even the republican botanic garden with 1080 specimens, the zoology museum and the 50 thousand-page herbarium. Professors Umarov, Abdurakhmanov and other scholar-enthusiasts from Stavropol, the Rostov region, Dagestan and Moscow joined the effort, often facing danger, but finally they got positive results. 158 plants under threat of extinction out of the 2200 established ones in Chechnya, 189 species of reptiles, mammals and insects out of the known 432 species in Chechnya are documented in the Red Book; also included are 92 specimens of plants and 32 species of animals requiring special attention. According to Isa Shakhtamirov, the compilers of the book had worked hard to produce a serious and high quality book. The Red Book is a vital contribution to the problem of the nature protection in Chechnya; it is a legal document which will enable the flora and fauna of the republic to enjoy official protection against poaching and unsanctioned handling and use. Most of the people who spoke at the presentation ceremony of the Red Book in Grozny describe it as patriotic document as well. Small amount of money was given for work on the book, but many people who regard nature protection a patriotic duty have contributed to the publication. As a result, 2100 copies have been published. Now they are being distributed to different departments, educational institutions and libraries.

Chechen history

Chechens one the worlds most ancient people

Chechens (self-assumed name " nokhchi" ) are the world" s most ancient people with unique anthropological type and culture. They are the largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus (more than 1 million people). The neighbouring Ingush people are very similar in genotype, culture and religion. Together they form the Vainakh people related by blood, common history, territorial, economic and cultural links and language. Vainakhs (Chechens, Ingushes) are aborigines of the Caucasus and speak Nakh, a language that belongs to the Iberian-Caucasian language family. The Vainakh (Chechen) ethnic and cultural complex was formed on the basis of various aboriginal people. Historically the Chechen community was formed as multi-ethnic and it kept absorbing ethnic elements of nomadic people and neighbouring high-landers, the evidence of which being the non-Vainakh origin of many Chechen clans. The history of Chechnya can be described as a continuing struggle for freedom and independence against outside enemies, in which periods of prosperity alternated with defeats and new attempts to revive the statehood. In the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries) Chechens had to take up arms to defend themselves against invaders from Rome, Sasanid Iran, Arab Caliphate and Khazar Kaganate. The centuries-long struggle forged a military union of highlanders and laid the foundation for their statehood.
