Gift to Grozny from Chechen Community of Volgodonsk

At a ceremony in Rostov-Don dedicated to the naming of the largest bulk-carrier in honor of Akhmat Kadyrov, Chechnyas first president, the Chechen community of Volgodonsk, a major city in the Rostov region, presented a visiting delegation from Chechnya a memorable gift. This gift, a gilt statue of deer, was wrought by hand and it is a virtual copy of the one that once decorated the city of Grozny. The ideas author, and the leader of the Chechen community of Volgodonsk, Lom-Ali Kagirov, arrived in Volgodonsk back in 1977 after graduating from an institute and getting an assignment in that city where he has lived ever since. He never regretted his relocation but he never broke his links with his land of birth . Even in the most difficult years, as he told our correspondent, nobody ever said a harsh word about Chechens in this city. Right now there are about 300 residents from Chechnya in this city who are mostly engaged in small business or farming. Overall in the Don area and in the Rostov region there are nearly 17,000 expatriates from Chechnya. Mr. Kagirov heads a construction company, which employs 250 workers, including Russians and Chechens. They build at various sites in Taganrog, Rostov-Don and in other cities. Community leaders and their representatives, as well as anyone else, of which there are many, usually gather in Rostov-Don at traditional holidays such as Kurban-Bairam, hiring a cafe or some other premises, where they can sit back and communicate. The Chechen community of Volgodonsk also closely cooperates with the representative office of the Chechen President in the Rostov region.

Officials from Chelyabinsk region have visited Chechnya. Among these are teachers from higher educational establishments, including the pro-rector of Chelyabinsk State University Andrei Melnikov and poet, Mikhail Anishenko. The delegation was accompanied by head of the Chechen mission in the region Said-Magomed Akhmatgireev. In fact, the two Russian entities have successfully cooperated in many areas in the past years. It is quite important that students and teachers of the university were actively involved in preparing and opening the web site devoted to Akhmat-hajji Kadyrov. At the time a Chechen parliamentary delegation visited Chelyabinsk. When it visited the university it invited the teachers to pay a visit to the republic. The two sides discuss promoting cooperation in education area and training graduates. Many Chechens study in the higher educational establishments in Chelyabinsk region. 17 October 2007 News of the republic is available five days a week
In autumn of the year 2006 News of the republic was the first Chechen newspaper available three times a week, and since January, 2007, it was available four times a week. But now the readers have an opportunity to enjoy their favorite newspaper from Tuesday till Saturday. Every day a reader needs fresh news and commentaries- says Khamzat Yunusov, chief editor. As soon as the new schedule was announced, the editorial office received a favorable response. Many people go the office to thank the journalists personally. The circulation is still 5,000 copies. Of course, this is not enough for the main newspaper of the republic- says Yunusov. The ministries, the local administration and other organizations get the issues regularly, but, unfortunately, libraries, schools and other institutions have to buy the newspaper on their own as the technology of subscription is not developed enough. However, we are doing our best to promote our paper more successfully. Mr. Yunusov calls on the readers to subscribe to the News of the republic while the Ministry on National Policy, Press and Information is considering an issue of enlarging the papers circulation. There is another reason what people should actively subscribe to the paper. This edition informs on the most important events which take place every day in the republican political life. The readers may learn all necessary information concerning the work of the presidents, the government and the Chechen parliament. Deputies, ministers and prominent public figure often give interviews to the correspondents of the News of the republic. But there was a lack of cultural information. That is why a Saturday issue in the A-3 format will familiarize the readers with the most recent events in cultural life and write about significant historical and architectural events. The editorial staff now will prepare a regular column dedicated to literature. Thus, the readers will enjoy the creative work of the recognized poets and writers as well as the beginners. Members of the editorial staff are confident that a Saturday supplement will attract more readers to the News of the republic.

17 October 2007  Realtor Guild: new method of business in Chechnya Guild of Realtor is fast becoming accepted method of selling, buying or disposing off estate by the residences of Chechnya . The Guild is a group of professionals who operate as intermediary between a seller and a buyer, ensuring honesty and fair play in the process of transaction. The Guild came into being in 2006 to unite the fragmented realtors, to make transparent data about all estate sales and to put all such data in computer so that any interested individual or group of people can gain access to them. The experiment took off in Grozny , which then had 5 realtors. The Guild now has 14 city and regional branches, raising operation to a republican level. Just a year ago, most Chechens didnt even know the word Realtor, but now we have long line of clients and people have more trust in our experts than in non-member of our Guild, - said Isa Gaitukayev, chairman of the Guild. - Among our members are lawyers and notary; clients can get full consultation from us as well as complete all formalities. People are anxious to purchase or sell estates through generally recognized specialists and mostly people come to us over disputed flats. In the past it was common for several people to claim ownership of the same flat. The Guild plans to cover all Chechen regions. We will open branches everywhere we are needed, - pledged I Gaitukayev. -We have already signed agreements with the administration of the city of Grozny , State property department and communal housing ministry; we are understood everywhere and hence our experts find it easy to work. We are looking for an opportunity to arrange for our members a course for upgrading of professional skill. We already have contacts with our Dagestan and Ingush colleagues and we maintain regular telephone link with Astrakhan and Volgograd Guilds. Shortly, we will travel to Stavropol to watch realtors there at work. Most importantly, the work of our Guild is one more example of the new life in Chechnya , said Isa Gaitukayev.

16 October 2007  A Great Success of Chechen Journalists at the International Media Festival
The 12th International Media Festival has come to a close in the Black Sea resort of Dagomys in the Krasnodar Region with Chechen journalists taking part in the event for the third time. Our journalists made a furore at the 2006 Festival by grabbing top prizes in practically all the nominations, says Khozhbaudi Borkhajiyev, Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Chechnya. Keeping in mind that it would be a formidable task to show similar brilliant results in 2007, we can safely say that the Dagomys Media Forum has also proved to be lucky for our journalist team., K.Borkhajiyev underlines. As many as 24 journalists from all the republican newspapers, two radio stations and a number of independent media represented Chechnya during the festival. The top prize in The Best Regional TV nomination went to Regina Djakayeva, staff member with the Grozny TV channel for her telecast named Motherlands Monuments. The festivals top awards were also given to Chechnyas photographer Said-Khusein Tsarnayev and The Voice of the Republic of Chechnya newspaper for its series of publications on human rights. The Union of Journalists of Chechnya got a certificate for its participation in a press exhibition. Valid Gadayev, Honoured Artist of the republic of Chechnya dominated a bard song contest by grabbing the Best Composer nomination. According to K.Borkhajiev, Chechen TV journalist Zarema Khazatova may well be among prizewinners in the Peace to the Caucasus nomination, the results of which will be announced in the city of Rostov in October. Our delegation,-K.Borkhajiyev says, felt comfortable at the festival. Every evening, we met with journalists from a variety of Russian regions, the United States, Norway. Expressing their admiration about our friendliness and hospitality , our guests have repeatedly asked us to perform Chechen songs. And it was V.Gadayev who presented our cultural program to our colleagues. A newspaper editor from the Kalmyk capital Elistsa, put it this way: If this festival has a soul, it is inside the Chechen delegation. And his colleague from a Krasnoyarsk newspaper expressed regret over the fact that there is no Audience Choice Award at the festival. If this nomination did exist, it would certainly go to Chechen journalists, the editor from Krasnoyarsk said. The 12th International Media Festival made it possible for its participants to exchange views and establish both personal and professional contacts. As to K.Borkhajiyev, he expressed satisfaction about the fact that during the festival, by showing Chechnyas true colors, Chechen delegation had managed to break false stereotypes concerning the republic. From now on, there would be more trust between Chechen journalists and their colleagues from the rest of the world, K.Borkhajiyev concluded.

Chechen history

Chechens one the worlds most ancient people

Chechens (self-assumed name " nokhchi" ) are the world" s most ancient people with unique anthropological type and culture. They are the largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus (more than 1 million people). The neighbouring Ingush people are very similar in genotype, culture and religion. Together they form the Vainakh people related by blood, common history, territorial, economic and cultural links and language. Vainakhs (Chechens, Ingushes) are aborigines of the Caucasus and speak Nakh, a language that belongs to the Iberian-Caucasian language family. The Vainakh (Chechen) ethnic and cultural complex was formed on the basis of various aboriginal people. Historically the Chechen community was formed as multi-ethnic and it kept absorbing ethnic elements of nomadic people and neighbouring high-landers, the evidence of which being the non-Vainakh origin of many Chechen clans. The history of Chechnya can be described as a continuing struggle for freedom and independence against outside enemies, in which periods of prosperity alternated with defeats and new attempts to revive the statehood. In the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries) Chechens had to take up arms to defend themselves against invaders from Rome, Sasanid Iran, Arab Caliphate and Khazar Kaganate. The centuries-long struggle forged a military union of highlanders and laid the foundation for their statehood.
