Gift to Grozny from Chechen Community of Volgodonsk

At a ceremony in Rostov-Don dedicated to the naming of the largest bulk-carrier in honor of Akhmat Kadyrov, Chechnyas first president, the Chechen community of Volgodonsk, a major city in the Rostov region, presented a visiting delegation from Chechnya a memorable gift. This gift, a gilt statue of deer, was wrought by hand and it is a virtual copy of the one that once decorated the city of Grozny. The ideas author, and the leader of the Chechen community of Volgodonsk, Lom-Ali Kagirov, arrived in Volgodonsk back in 1977 after graduating from an institute and getting an assignment in that city where he has lived ever since. He never regretted his relocation but he never broke his links with his land of birth . Even in the most difficult years, as he told our correspondent, nobody ever said a harsh word about Chechens in this city. Right now there are about 300 residents from Chechnya in this city who are mostly engaged in small business or farming. Overall in the Don area and in the Rostov region there are nearly 17,000 expatriates from Chechnya. Mr. Kagirov heads a construction company, which employs 250 workers, including Russians and Chechens. They build at various sites in Taganrog, Rostov-Don and in other cities. Community leaders and their representatives, as well as anyone else, of which there are many, usually gather in Rostov-Don at traditional holidays such as Kurban-Bairam, hiring a café or some other premises, where they can sit back and communicate. The Chechen community of Volgodonsk also closely cooperates with the representative office of the Chechen President in the Rostov region.

15 October 2007 Russian President Vladimir Putin discusses with the teachers of the high school No. 5 in Urus-Martan during a video link
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Cheboksari on the 12th of September and discussed the realization of the special national projects devoted to education and healthcare. During his visit to Volga River Federal District he held discussions with the staff members of secondary schools in the regions of Chuvashia, Belgorod and Kaliningrad and Chechen Republic using the Internet video link. Teacher of the High School No. 5 in the city of Urus-Martan took part in the discussion with the Russian President. The high school is among the best in Chechnya and one of the first schools that was granted an access to the Internet owing to the realization of the national education project. Teacher of history, Zurab Guchigov discussed with the President. We asked him to give a brief account about the discussion. Concerning the first question by Zurab Guchigov to the President he said all questions were asked by Vladimir Putin. The President inquired how the national project was being realized in the school. He had expressed desire to know my opinion about the impact of the project on teaching. He also interested in the quality of teaching in Chechen schools as a whole and the level of education in the republic that has radically changed in the past years. Zurab Guchigov thanked the President on behalf of all teachers of the high school for taking care. He told Vladimir Putin that the school was computerized in full owing to the national project. Under the national project five high schools in Urus-Martan received one million ruble-grants and they have an opportunity to equip all classrooms and laboratories as demanded by the teaching process. The President carefully listened to Zurab Guchigov. Vladimir Putin reminded the year 2000 in Chechnya when the education system was started to restore. 14 October 2007  Health Spa Opens in Melchkhi Village A health spa opened on the site of the hot springs in the village of Melchkhi of Gudermess region. The healing properties of these springs were known for some time but their utilization was random and disorganized. Now on the initiative of the Chechen President and in cooperation with the Akhmat-Khadji Kadyrov Fund, a health spa was built at the site meeting all sanitary norms of a curative center. It is located in a two-story building, which houses baths, rest facilities and a canteen. A spacious prayer hall is designed both for men and women. The mens and womens compartments of the center can accommodate eight persons each. Idris Baisultanov, the chief doctor of the Gudermess region, arriving on a fact-finding tour of the facility, first took samples of available curative mud (peloid) at the site. This is very special peloid, he explained, which is just as curative for many ailments and the mineral water from the local springs. These samples will be dispatched for analysis, on the basis of which we intend to expand the health center at Melchkhi and build a large healing complex. Recuperation at Melchkhi is indicted for severe injuries and post-traumatic syndrome, for disorders of the motion system, as well as dermal and mycotic ailments. Such treatment produces favorable effects on rheumatologic and neurological patients. There are also counter-indications for patients with neglected cases of pulmonary ailments, diabetes, hypertension, and heart condition. However, if such patients are in a stage of remission, than by consultation with a doctor, they can also receive treatment at Melchkhi. This center became the first trial balloon of the healing and curative system based on the hot springs of the Gudermess region. In Czarist times health spas were available on the Bragun springs, which in Soviet times became quite popular, particularly with dwellers of the Far North, who came here on vouchers. Also quite curative are the spas in the mountainous regions of the area. There are splendid opportunities for sulfury-logical baths in Gudermess itself. It is impossible to build everything at once, Idris Baisultanov sums it up, but the program has been developed and the President keeps it under his personal control. This means things will get going.

Chechen history

Chechens one the worlds most ancient people

Chechens (self-assumed name " nokhchi" ) are the world" s most ancient people with unique anthropological type and culture. They are the largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus (more than 1 million people). The neighbouring Ingush people are very similar in genotype, culture and religion. Together they form the Vainakh people related by blood, common history, territorial, economic and cultural links and language. Vainakhs (Chechens, Ingushes) are aborigines of the Caucasus and speak Nakh, a language that belongs to the Iberian-Caucasian language family. The Vainakh (Chechen) ethnic and cultural complex was formed on the basis of various aboriginal people. Historically the Chechen community was formed as multi-ethnic and it kept absorbing ethnic elements of nomadic people and neighbouring high-landers, the evidence of which being the non-Vainakh origin of many Chechen clans. The history of Chechnya can be described as a continuing struggle for freedom and independence against outside enemies, in which periods of prosperity alternated with defeats and new attempts to revive the statehood. In the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries) Chechens had to take up arms to defend themselves against invaders from Rome, Sasanid Iran, Arab Caliphate and Khazar Kaganate. The centuries-long struggle forged a military union of highlanders and laid the foundation for their statehood.
