Naur Region to Mark Day of the Native Tongue

On April 23, Chechnya traditionally will mark the Day of the Chechen language. The Naur region is one example where it is marked. Efforts toward this day began on February 21, which is an international day of the native tongue. Zoya Ibakova, deputy chief of the regional education department and president of the regional literary club Sobesednik said that the main purpose of this event is to make it touch the souls of the youth and the younger generation. For many years a number of schools in the Republic did not teach the Chechen language at all and Chechen children were alienated from proper knowledge of their mother tongue. And now they see for themselves how multi-faceted and rich their national culture is, how great Chechen poetry and writings are. The preparatory program for an celebration of the Day of the Chechen language in the region is such as to reveal fully the young peoples talents and abilities. They will demonstrate their knowledge of their mother tongue by reciting verses and song-singing, theatrical performances and encounters with Chechen men of letters, which are becoming ever more popular. Zoya Ibakova cordially thanked the Union of Chechen Writers, its chairman Eduard Mamakayev, who has gladly responded to invitations from the Naur region, made a point of visiting with Naur readers and bringing along his colleagues. They have already visited Naurs primary school and Ischorsk middle school, while preparing to mark the Day of the Chechen language. All over the place interesting dialogues occurred, which were mutually beneficial to the literary figures, schoolchildren, their parents, teachers and the general public in those residential areas. The region also held a contest for those who recite Chechen literary works, and school students from the Naur regional center, Alpatovo and Novosolkushino were recognized as the best of them. The school students were joined by their grandparents and even great grandparents in collecting folklore material.

Chechen history

The history of Russian-Chechen relations

The current conflict in Chechnya is largely rooted in the history of Russian-Chechen relations, which include six stages. The first stage The first stage, which started in the middle of the 16th century and lasted until the end of the 17th century, was marked by a peaceful colonization of the region. That period is characterized by vassal-allied forms of relations between Moscow tsars and elders of Chechen communities. Moscow was trying to expand its influence in the region by political and economic means mainly. The policy was a success and Chechen communities voluntarily (by signing agreements) announced recognition of the supreme power of the Moscow state. The second stage The second stage, which lasted almost throughout the 18th century, marks the beginning of Russia's open military expansion to the North Caucasus. Under Peter I and then Catherine II the doctrine of colonizing the mountain areas prevalent. (more...)

24 April 2007 Sowing of spring crops is in full swing
According to the head of the Shalinsky department of the Chechen Agricultural Ministry, Usama Musayev, the districts agricultural sector is in a proper condition. There is no shortage of seeds, motor fuels and there is enough technical equipment though it is too old already. This year the Ministry has allocated 300 million rubles to buy new equipment for the regions, including the Shalinksy. Recently the government of the republic has decided to turn over the land of the state farm Dzhalka ( 1001 hectares) for the perpetual use by the farm Predgorny. This question has been discussed since 1992, but during those times it could not be solved because of the war. But today the situation has changed dramatically. However, the land which has been handed over to Predgorny farm is still occupied by the troops of the Ministry of Defense, and that is why it cant answer its purpose. But it is high time that the land started to sprout. I wish good seed-growers arrived here as soon as possible,- dreams Usam Musayev. The Shalinksy district is paying more attention to cattle-breeding. And if state farms can boast only a few tens of livestock, those who have privatized farms have achieved great progress. After receiving credits from the Rosselkhozbank, people managed to but more than 1000 units of livestock and more than 200 sheep. According to Usam Musayev, the government has already announced its plans to develop the infrastructure of the state farms Dzhalka, Shalinksy and Pobedinsky.

23 April 2007  Roads condition main indication of economy state Kadyrov
Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov believes that quality of roads is the main indication of the state of the republic's economy. Bad roads means bad economy, he noted during his inspection of the city. Grozny's roads are in awful condition, he said. The head of the Chechen capital's administration, Muslim Khuchiyev, noted that the total length of asphalt roads in the city was more than 300 kilometres. During the combat actions, almost 60 percent of the roads were destroyed. They are rebuilt at present with modern technologies and high-quality materials. Forty sections are under major repair now. Intensive work is also under way to reconstruct three bridges. There are 13 bridges in Grozny, and only eight are partly open. The road rebuilding and repair work is financed from the budgets of the city and the republic, investments, funds of building companies and the Akhmat Kadyrov regional public fund, Khuchiyev said. Chechen history

Chechens one the worlds most ancient people

Chechens (self-assumed name " nokhchi" ) are the world" s most ancient people with unique anthropological type and culture. They are the largest ethnic group in the North Caucasus (more than 1 million people). The neighbouring Ingush people are very similar in genotype, culture and religion. Together they form the Vainakh people related by blood, common history, territorial, economic and cultural links and language. Vainakhs (Chechens, Ingushes) are aborigines of the Caucasus and speak Nakh, a language that belongs to the Iberian-Caucasian language family. The Vainakh (Chechen) ethnic and cultural complex was formed on the basis of various aboriginal people. Historically the Chechen community was formed as multi-ethnic and it kept absorbing ethnic elements of nomadic people and neighbouring high-landers, the evidence of which being the non-Vainakh origin of many Chechen clans. The history of Chechnya can be described as a continuing struggle for freedom and independence against outside enemies, in which periods of prosperity alternated with defeats and new attempts to revive the statehood. In the early Middle Ages (4th-12th centuries) Chechens had to take up arms to defend themselves against invaders from Rome, Sasanid Iran, Arab Caliphate and Khazar Kaganate. The centuries-long struggle forged a military union of highlanders and laid the foundation for their statehood.
