New literature and artistic Painting devoted to works by Kharon Isaev

The Chechen governments archive department has published literature and artistic painting album, which is devoted to life and works of merited painter of the Chechen Republic, Kharon Isaev. According to the head of the department, Magomed Musaev who is the editor-in-chief of the publication, Isaev is one of the prominent painters of the elder generation in the republic who shared all difficulties faced Chechnya with its people. This is the first ever such album published in Chechnya. It includes articles and comments on the works of Kh. Isaev by intellectuals of Chechnya, painters, writers, poets and journalists. Among these 15 authors are the members of the journalists union of the Russian Federation Akhmed Tagirov, the former director of the Checheno-Ingushia state museum, Zarema Musaeva, the director of Chechnyas national museum Vakha Astalov, the merited scientist of the Russian Federation and Checheno-Ingushia Autonomous Soviet Republic, Academician Ibragim Aleroev. The album includes all works by the painter linked with the republic, landscapes, portraits, still life, water colour paintings and caricature. There are chapters, Scope of Russia, Local Colours of Kabardino-Balkaria, Dagestan Motives and Far and Near Jordan.

Chechen Karate Wrestlers Win Medals

At Russias thequando championship held in Syzran Arbi Ardashev won the top prize in the heavy weight category of the World Thequando Federation. Eight thequando wrestlers from the Chechen Republic took part in the championship. At about the same time a karate-kudo championship of the Southern Federal District was held in Rostov-on-the Don. Over 100 athletes from eight regions in the south of Russia participated in the event. The team from the Chechen Republic was represented by 8 athletes from the Krasnodar subsidiary of the Interior Ministrys university. The Chechen athletes won 6 medals of various values. Ayub Khatuyev, Rashid Magomadov and Ibragim Lorsanov among them won the top awards. Zulemkhan and Gaibek Magomadovs placed second. The first five Chechen karate wrestlers took part in Russias karate-kudo championship held on February 19 in Moscow. (more...)

13 March 2007 Two rebels killed in Ingushetia
Two rebels wanted in Chechnya for gun-running were killed in the neighbouring Caucasus republic of Ingushetia on Sunday during an operation to arrest them, Interfax cited authorities as saying. The rebels, one of whom was a woman, opened fire when the operation in the village of Ordjonikidzevski began and set off a grenade which killed them, a spokesman for the Ingushetian interior ministry said. Armed clashes are frequent in the Caucasus mountain region in southern Russia. Dagestan and Ingushetia both border Chechnya, which has been devastated by more than a decade of conflict between Russian forces and Chechen rebels. AFP

13 March 2007  Chechen court sentences Turk to 23 years in prison
A court in Chechnya has sentenced a Turkish citizen to 23 years in prison for his involvement in terrorism and criminal activities on Russian territory, a local prosecutor's office said Monday. "The investigation established that Turkish citizen Ali Soitekinoglu underwent special military training in the Pankisi Gorge [Georgia] in the summer of 2001," the press service for the Russian Prosecutor General's office in the South Federal District said. "Later, as part of the Ruslan Gelayev criminal armed formation [killed in 2004], he illegally crossed the Russian border into Chechnya." It was also established that Soitekinoglu was involved in attacks on people, law enforcement officers and military servicemen of the Russian federal forces, as well as of committing a terrorist act that killed 14 police officers. 13 March 2007  Militant arrested in Chechnya
A member of a criminal armed group was arrested in a search operation in Chechnya's Vedeno on Saturday. The man was arrested on suspicion of being a member of the criminal armed group, led by field commander Imurzayev, between March 2004 and December 2006, law enforcement officials told Interfax on Sunday.
