A Triumph of the Chechen Actors at the Stage Without Borders Festival

Some time ago, the Stage Without Borders festival was held in Vladikankaz, capital the republic of Severnaya Osetiya-Alaniya. The festival is traditional - this year it was held for the third time. So far it has been the festival of the national theatres of the Northern Caucasus only, but this time drama theaters from Abkhaziya, Tadjikistan and Tatarstan also took part in it. The Chechen State drama theatres named after Khanpashi Nuradilov participated in the festival with great success. It performed Skapen, Save Love, a new stage production based on the work of the world - famous French author Jean-Baptist Moliere. Ruslan Khakishev, head of the theater, staged it. He is the Honorary Artist of the Russian Federation and a prominent Chechen theater director. Amran Jamayev, Peoples Artist of the Chechen republic and the republic of Severnaya Osetiya-Alaniya, played the role of Skapen. Peoples artists of the Chechen republic Sultan Dokayev, Khamid Azaeyv, Raisa Gichayeva participated in the performance along with young artists and new members of the troupe. Among them were Laura Amirkhanova, Aset Murtazaliyeva, etc. A group of theater critics from Moscow, who visited the festival, highly appraised professional skills of the actors from Chechnya. The Chechen State Drama Theater got two diplomats. One of them went to Aset Murtazaliyeva as the best second actress and the other was presented to the troupe for the best costumes, which were designed and created at the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre in St. Petersburg. Russlan Khakishev believes that the participation in the festival was of great importance to the Grozny State Drama Theater. The troupe had a unique opportunity to meet their colleagues, discuss problems of the further development of the regional drama theaters and even reach preliminary agreements on mutual tours. Ruslan Khakishev expressed hope that in the not too distant future theaters from various parts of the Russian Federation would be able to bring to Grozny their best stage productions. (more...)

23 May 2006 Paddy Cultivation is Profitable
Paddy cultivation attracts a growing number of agriculture workers and farmers, particularly in Gudermes and Shelkovsky districts. According to the head of Shelkovsky districts agriculture department, Muslim Takhaev, paddy could be the main culture in the region. This is profitable since the price of other grains is between 1.5-2 rubles a kg, while rice between 20 and 30 rubles a kg. In fact, the paddy yield is more than that of other grains. There is a big demand for rice in Russia, and it is met by large imports. Takhaev believes many farms should turn to paddy cultivation. State farms in Karagalin and Chervalen districts have already started to carry out soil improvement work. Muslin Takhaev says the agrarian sector makes slow progress owing to the shortage of seeds, agricultural machines and equipment, fuel and grease. Wine-growing has made progress this year since it has been financed. About 150 hectares are now under wine growing in Shelkovsky district but there is a real possibility of increasing the area two times next year. Animal husbandry is developing mainly owing to the private farmers who have about 30 thousand cattle and up to 300 thousand sheep in the district. The state farms in Dubrovsk and Novoshedrin have only 100 cattle. Only the state farm in Burun is engaged in sheep breeding and it has about 2 000 sheep. Despite the big gap between private and state farms Muslin Takhaev believes that the prospects fro developing animal husbandry is in the hands of state farms. These farms have started reconstruction work. But money allocated for this purpose is insufficient. Nevertheless, Muslim Takhaev hopes to increase the number of animals two times next year.

22 May 2006  Achkhoi-Martan Solves Agricultural Problems Successfully
Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov has instructed Agriculture Ministry to organize large animal husbandry farms that meet contemporary demands at the earliest. Such a task is before Achkhoi-Martan district too. Animal husbandry farms will be set up at the state farms Samashkinsky, Ordzhonikidzovsky, Marta and Kolos. The gasification of the buildings that will be used for this purpose is now underway. These farms will get electricity too. Wells are being drilled near these complexes to get water. With the commissioning of these complexes they will be supplied with high-breed saplings. About 200 people will serve in these complexes. This will create new jobs. The district is handling other agricultural issues successfully. The sowing of spring crops, sunflower and maize is underway in Achkhoi-Martan. Winter crops sowed in 6 000 hectares and oats in 700 hectares. Beetroot has already been sowed. Republican Agriculture Ministry supplied beetroot seeds, which were produced in the district itself. The processing of fruits and vegetables will be partially carried out in the republic this year. The government has allocated 33 million rubles to reconstruct the Samashkinsky factory and 20 million rubles to purchase machines and equipment. About one fourth of this sum has already been used. Machines are being installed at the factory. Most likely, tomato-processing conveyer will be commissioned by the end of the year. The factory is expected to work in full strength next year. The district received 130 tons of fuel and grease needed for carrying out spring fieldwork. It gets spare parts too. According to the head of its agriculture department, Magomed Marzabekov, the district hopes to gather a good harvest this year.

21 May 2006  We Have One and Only Motherland and God
Some time ago a special group was formed at the Chechen Ministry of the National Policy, Mass Media and Information. From now on it will be studying the situation at those regions of the republic, where people of various nations and nationalities have been living side by side from time immemorial. The group has already visited the Shelkovskoi and Naurski regions. Officials of the Chechen ministry of education and culture accompanied their colleges from the Chechen ministry of the national policy, mass media and information during their visit to the Naurski region. They met the local authorities, representatives of the cossacks, Turkish of the Meskhetiya extraction, Islamic leaders and Father Tikhon, a Christian priest. Vakha Garsayev, deputy minister of the national policy, mass media and information, heads the group. According to him, the meeting was of great importance. So, the representatives of the Turkish of the Meskhetiya extraction spoke about their most acute problem. They still face problems and troubles in getting a Russian passport and obtaining a Russian citizenship. A high-ranking official of the Chechen passport and visa service, who was also invited to the meeting, told those present about the measures taken to improve the current unfavorable situation. The representatives of the Turkish of the Meskhetiya extraction also spoke about the necessity to pay them compensation because they were deported along with the Chechen people, but it was announced that they would not get it. At the same meeting an agreement was reached to build a new Christian church in the Naursky region because the old one was in a sad state. The group from the Chechen ministry of the national policy, mass media and information also monitored the state of inter-nations relations and social and economic situation in the Naurski region and stated with satisfaction that theres not a single case of any negative actions against peoples of different nations, that the locals were tolerant to each other, respectful and mutually helpful to each other. Vakha Garsaev noted that the Naursky region should pay much more attention to the local systems of education and culture. Nowadays their material security leaves much to be desired. The other no less important problems deal with the necessity to have the former Russian population back and the up bringing of the youth of all nations and nationalities inhabiting the Naursky region. We have one and only Motherland and God, stresses Vakha Garsaev. We respect our former residents, who had to leave Chechnya. We say to our Russian-speaking neighbors we love you, we remember you and you hope to have you back, all those who now live in other regions.
