11 May 2006  Red Cross Society Continues to Work in Chechnya
A major part of the useful work of the International Red Cross Society in Chechnya is connected with anti-mines propaganda because mines and unexploded devices still constitute serious problems to the population of the republic. Children are the most vulnerable. In Chechnya the Red Cross disseminates information about the danger of mines, instructs both children and adults about safety measures as well as ensures that childrens play grounds are built in safe areas. This year Red Cross has restarted the Wall paintings project devoted to the danger of mines. Last year the project covered 20 schools in Grozny, Achxoi-Martan, Urus-Martan and Gudermes regions and this year paintings by children will be on display in 10 Grozny schools. For the latest three years, the children Magazine Raduga (Rainbow) published in the Chechen language, has been carrying a Red Cross column devoted to the danger of mines. The column has published childrens stories and letters as well as plays by well-known Chechen playwrights. Later children performed the plays in their schools. Regularly Chechen major papers carry articles about the danger of mines and this year the anti-mine control service used available information to pick 20 populated areas for the building of safe playgrounds for children. Work has already commenced in 5 of them- in the villages of Sernovodsk, Sunzhensky, Roshni-Chu and Urus-Martan regions, the settlement of Gekalo (Grozny region), one of the villages in Sharoisk region and several villages in Vedenskii region: Sa-Vedeno, Guni and Dargo The work of the anti-mine service is being supported by UNICEF whose branch in Chechnya has been collaborating with the Voice of the mountain NGO. The Red Cross Society is working hand in hand with the local authorities in Chechnya and frequently both sides hold meetings to evaluate work already done. Just recently Movsur Ibrahimov, the Chechen national policy, press and information minister, held a meeting with Marcel Arnold, the Red Cross bureau chief in Grozny, and the official gave details of the Societys work in Chechnya. Mr. Arnold also briefed Mr. Ibrahimov about future plans of the Red Cross. In turn Mr. Ibrahimov asked the Red Cross to send more volunteers to the mountain regions, especially Vedensky region. Emerging from the meeting with Arnold, Mr.Ibrahimov appealed to the press to become more active in propagating the work of the Red Cross Society in Chechnya.

10 May 2006  The Vainakh TV and Radio Station Has Great Plans and Fine Prospects
The Vainakh TV and radio station was organized in 2000. It is a sister unit of the All Russian State TV and Radio Company. In 2000-2003 Alamakhat Elsaev was Editor-in-Chief of the Department of analytical programs at the Vainakh station. He also took active part in organizing TV and Radio company in Grozny. Then he was invited to work at the administration of the President of Chechnya and the government of the republic. Now he heads the Vainakh TV and radio station and is really happy to be back to TV and radio journalism. Commenting on his appointment, which took place in the middle of April, A.Elsaev says he is in his element again. Highly appraising the majority of the programs produced at the Vainakh TV and radio station, A. Elsaev is absolutely sure the staff is able to produce even better programs. In May the company plans to move to a new building with a new studio complex one of the best pilot complexes of the kind throughout Russia. The federal authorities have allocated money to build the new complex. Of course, the fact imposes responsibility and A. Elsaev is absolutely sure the team of the station will do everything possible to justify the confidence. He refers to the staff-members as the team not by accident. He would not like them to be either a group of people indifferent to what theyre doing or, say, a highly emotional family. He views them as a unique group of highly skilled and interchangeable personalities. To form such a team A. Elsaev invites new people and holds contests among candidates, paying special attention to their professional skills and physiological compatibility. In his opinion, the Vainakh TV and radio company should be in the vanguard of the national TV and radio broadcasting. Its main task is to initiate and generate ideas, to discuss the most urgent current problems with specialists and experts in order to find their best possible solutions. The Vainakh TV and radio company believes it wont disappoint its TV and radio audience because it has many interesting, informative, educational and entertaining projects to offer.
