There is no question as to what profession to choose for many school graduates in Sunzhenski region. These youngsters were helped in this matter early on in school, while attending amateur trade clubs in the regional Center of childrens technical creativity. The Center was set up in 2001 and today more than 700 children attend one of 21 such clubs in the region. All such clubs are set up in keeping with the childrens interests, such as Young Technician, Learn and Do It, decorative application, photo design, technical modeling, etc. Most youngsters go for computer literacy in school-based clubs attended by four groups of children from all over the region. The principal of Assinovski school 1 let a whole classroom for computer studies. Rustam Suleimanov the club instructor is a young computer literate specialist with a higher education background. He works individually with each person. His only problem is lack of access to the Internet. According to Saidulla Azhigov the Centers director its purpose is to instill in children a knack for technical creativity, open up their personal capacities, help in their guidance and make the right choice of their future profession. Childrens works from the Sunzhi Center were frequently displayed at various Republican and All-Russia exhibitions of childrens technical creativity. A functioning wind-mill model was recently displayed at an exhibition in Grozny. And the All-Russia exposition center in Moscow will feature this year wood-carving works from Chechnya, including a box, carved in the form of a star. Saidulla Azhigov went on to say that the Centers great importance is to keep children occupied in those clubs, keep them from the deleterious influence of the street. A major effort is undertaken at the Center by its amicable employees to prevent alcoholism and drug addiction among Chechen youngsters. Those who wish to attend courses at the Center need to be interviewed to determine their interests and creative proclivities. Each study session at the clubs lasts for two academic hours. The time of studies varies from the morning, day-time and evening attendance so that each pupil can find for himself the most convenient time span. The schools where the clubs operate have snack rooms where children can get something to eat. The parents neednt worry about their children when they are attending our Center, its director is convinced.
