Getting to Know Each Other Better

Late last month the Naur settlement in Chechnya hosted a republican festival of national cultural centers The Rainbow of Cultures. Taking part in the festival were childrens ensembles of the Nogai cultural center Ushkun, a joint Kumyk ethno-cultural center, a Russian national cultural center and Young Naur Cossacks ensemble. The festival was sponsored by the regional public organization Sozidaniye and the Center of Folk Creativity of the Chechen Republic. Ramzan Daudovdirector of that Center emphasized that at various times representatives of different peoples lived in friendship and accord and treated respectfully the culture, customs and languages of each other. Today, the Centers director noted , when our common adversaries attempt to sow grains of discord among them, we ought to show how important it is to live in peace and friendship. About 100 participants of the festival displayed their talents before the spectators. Dancers took turns appearing on stage and songs in native languages rang out. Chechen cuisine

Chechen cuisine

"The Chechens, like the rest of the highlanders, avoid extremes in their eating and drinking habits. What they usually eat is chureks or corn bread with mutton lard spread on it, and wheat stew with lard in it; water is their basic refreshment." "...Unleavend wheat or barley bread baked on charcoal, milk and cheese constitute their daily menu; meat is eaten, very rarely, by the richest of the Chechens." That was written about the Chechen eating habits in the 19th century. And it was not until the late 19th century that many vegetables grown in Europe - tomatoes, cabbage, radish - had found their way to the kitchen gardens of mountainous Chechnya. Chechen farming units have, since times immemorial, been self-sufficient, with only spices and sweetmeats being bought at the market. And, although they have become familiar with the cuisines of many other ethnic communities, the Chechen women cherish the very special culinary traditions of their own.

24 Mart 2006 Tax Collection in Grozny Exceeds the Target
Over 8 billion rubles were collected by the tax agencies in Grozny last year. A part of it was directed to the federal budget and the rest to the republican. Though the sum collected exceeded the last years target, it was a difficult year for tax inspectors. The tax collection bodies carried out inspections to register all potential taxpayers; individual and cooperative tax payers who are engaged in private business. Six inspectors did this job. The leading taxpayers in Grozny are Grozneftegaz oil company, Interbiznes Construction Company and other construction companies and enterprises. The sum of tax paid by individuals is quite significant. This means the target in tax collection for this year in Grozny will be much higher.

23 Mart 2006  Rosneft transfers Chechen oil profits for reconstruction program
Rosneft channels Chechen oil profits to Industry and Energy Ministry accounts. The funds are then assigned for the social and economic reconstruction of Chechnya in line with the governmental resolution of August 4, 2000, a Rosneft source told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. Rosnefts subsidiary, Grozneftegaz, produced 2.2 million tonnes of oil last year, and 20 billion ruble profits were transferred to the ministerial accounts, the source said. The Chechen parliament decided on Tuesday to ask the federal administration for control over Grozneftegaz. The republican administration has 49% interest in the company, so it falls short the controlling state at 2%.

23 Mart 2004  Vnesheconombank signs cooperation agreement with China, Chechnya
One of Russia's oldest banks said Tuesday it had signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with a leading Chinese financial institution and the government of the Chechen Republic. State-owned Vnesheconombank (VEB) said the deal with the Chinese State Bank for Development and Chechnya had been clinched as part of President Vladimir Putin's two-day visit to China, which began Tuesday. "The banks will provide financial support for investment projects in various sectors of Chechnya's economy, in particular housing construction, infrastructure development, machine-building, manufacturing and oil refining," VEB said. The bank added that the agreement would facilitate the region's socio-economic development and attract investment into the Chechen economy, which has been devastated by years of fighting. VEB said one $5.7-million project was a brick making factory in the capital, Grozny, with a capacity of 50 million bricks a year. A second project worth $2.5 mln will reconstruct a timber processing plant in the southwest of the republic with a capacity of 130,000 metric tons of end products a year.
