Uniform Federal Pension System Created in Chechnya

What remains to be done now is set up a comprehensive network for data transmission. Several million dollars have been appropriated for these purposes. Still unresolved, however, is the problem with premises for employees of the Pension Distribution Office. An additional 100 million roubles are now available to complete the construction of an appropriate building, which is to be commissioned by December 1, 2006. Gennady Batanov, chief of Russias Pension Fund recently visited the republic, noting progress the Chechen subsidiary of the Fund was making. Pensions in the republic are paid out regularly an on time. An increase to minimal pensions concerning 40,000 recipients is also envisaged. These people during the hostilities in the republic lost their documents supporting their work records. During his working visit to Chechnya, Gennady Batanov pledged to follow up on the issue, as Russian and Chechen presidents have reached on agreement on that score. The Russian Pension Fund chief also pledged to help find more funding for the completion of the new building of Chechnyas Pension subsidiary. (more...)

Chechen cuisine

"The Chechens, like the rest of the highlanders, avoid extremes in their eating and drinking habits. What they usually eat is chureks or corn bread with mutton lard spread on it, and wheat stew with lard in it; water is their basic refreshment." "...Unleavend wheat or barley bread baked on charcoal, milk and cheese constitute their daily menu; meat is eaten, very rarely, by the richest of the Chechens." That was written about the Chechen eating habits in the 19th century. And it was not until the late 19th century that many vegetables grown in Europe - tomatoes, cabbage, radish - had found their way to the kitchen gardens of mountainous Chechnya. Chechen farming units have, since times immemorial, been self-sufficient, with only spices and sweetmeats being bought at the market. And, although they have become familiar with the cuisines of many other ethnic communities, the Chechen women cherish the very special culinary traditions of their own.

08 Mart 2006  Chechen Republican Subsidiary of Russian Childrens Fund
In 2000 Chechnya saw the reopening of the republican subsidiary of the Russian Childrens Fund. The republican subsidiary headed by Ramzan Khasukhanov is now located on 48, Lenin Street in the village of Kurchaloi of Kurchaloi region. This year it is to be moved to Grozny. The republics government pledged to provide its assistance in relocation to the subsidiarys employees. Despite some financial difficulties and lack of its own premises, the employees managed to implement a string of programs. According to the subsidiarys deputy director, Milika Okunchaeyva, they managed to arrange for medical treatment in Moscow of over 600 children. These are mainly sick children who are unable to receive required medical aid in the republic itself. Moreover, with support from the Soros Foundation in cooperation with the interregional organization Sozidaniye, a peace-keeping project Chechnyas Children Ambassadors of Peace was launched. Several childrens ensembles received financial aid under this project. In 2004, the Childrens Fund subsidiary carried out a project called Library as Recreation, which provided aid to more than 500 children at transitional location camps. In 2005 the Fund sponsored a contest of childrens drawings for kindergarten-age children. 420 drawings collected from 39 kindergartens were presented at the contest. The best creations went into the design of kindergarten playgrounds. Malika Okunchayeva noted that the republican subsidiary of the Childrens Fund was prepared to implement many other federal programs , such as Children & Health, Diabetic Children, Children at Merry-Making and Frontline Children in Chechnya. But in order to implement these programs, the Fund requires financial support from the Chechen government and wealthy entrepreneurs in the republic. Despite lack of funding, the Funds employees are busy preparing for new programs Life-Savers, Gifted Children and Social Aid.
