Cadres are being trained for cultural institutions

The Chechen special school of culture founded in 2001 on the basis of the combined music and culture schools has started functioning this year and some well known figures in the republic like Venera Mitayeva, Marha Avtiyeva , Malika Alakayeva Umarpashi Abuyev, Dikalu Muzikayev and others have joined the teaching staff. Teachers and students of the institute have recently returned from Gidermes. The institute has been given the building of the former Chechen culture ministry and its director, Hizri Wahabov has said that the present conditions are far from ideal and not adequate for the demands being made for the training of qualified cadres for the Chechen culture institutions. The school has a present enrolment of 350 students 160 of who are day students while 190 are external students. Day students study music, vocals, choreography and arts and this year a theater department will be opened. External students are offered library as well as social and cultural studies. Studies last for 3 years 10 months. Each year the school turns out 160 specialists in 9 disciplines and according to Mr. Wahabov they have no problem of job placement since there are acute shortages of various specialists in Chechnya. Offers of employment pour in to the school regularly from common educational, music and arts schools, regional libraries, and houses of culture.. Starting from this year pupils in cultural schools in Chechnya like their counterparts in other p[arts of Russia will receive 250 rubles per month as stipend and they will also travel free in public transport. From June 1 this year application will be received from aspiring pupils for permission to write the entrance examination in dictation in Russian language, history of candidates area as well as an interview on chosen discipline which will be conducted on August 20. When will All Houses in Naur District Get Gas?

The supply of gas in Chechnya has become an acute issue during the cold winter since houses are heated by gas. The residents of the villages of Kalinovskaya, Novoterskaya, Levoberezhnya and Ulyanovskaya have had to bear cold owing to insufficient gas supply. The pressure of the five-kilometer pipeline from the village of Isherskaya fell sharply. Moreover, some houses in the villages of Nikolaevskaya, Frunzenskoe and Novocolkushino have not yet gasified. Situation in schools and hospitals in these villages is disastrous since all are heated by natural gas units and they have no reserve fuel too. According to the chief engineer of the Naur branch of Chechengaz, Anatoly Vorobev, there is a need to build a ring pipeline to solve the problem radically. The sector of the pipeline from the Severny state farm to Kizlyar-Mozdok pipeline has already been built. The absence of several spare parts at the gas distributing station has prevented the gas from supplying. Russias gas monopoly, Gazprom, Chechenregiongaz Company and Chechengaz agreed to solve the issue and supply gas at the earliest. Gas supply operators are ready to receive gas and regulate the distributors in all villages. They do their jobs under very complicated conditions. They have not received their salaries in the past five years and have no special uniforms and spare parts for breakdown prevention repairs. (more)

Border Regions are Widening Sporting Contacts

Regions along the borders of Chechnya and other neighbouring regions in Russia are broadening all-round contacts including in sport. In recent years Gudermes region in Chechnya and Hasavut region in Dagestan have actively been strengthening cooperation in sport. The Alternative to violence organization has been helping both regions to exchange visits, play football, volleyball, and chess, to arrange wrestling competition and compete in several other popular sports. The main aim in these competitions is not winning but friendship, said Ahmet Isakov, chairman of the Hasavut regions sport committee. Quite often we aim to achieve a draw in competitions since one other objective is to restore severed links, said Mr. Isakov. Most of the competitions take place in Hasavut where better conditions for such exist. Our sportsmen and women are better trained but we have noticed that Gudermes friends are not lagging behind even though that for a long time sport was a secondary consideration in Chechnya, said Mr. Isakov. Both sides will next meet in a competition in the Hasavut athletic competitions and Mr. Isakov is sure that Dagestan will not waste time to reciprocate. (more)

Chechen cuisine

"The Chechens, like the rest of the highlanders, avoid extremes in their eating and drinking habits. What they usually eat is chureks or corn bread with mutton lard spread on it, and wheat stew with lard in it; water is their basic refreshment." "...Unleavend wheat or barley bread baked on charcoal, milk and cheese constitute their daily menu; meat is eaten, very rarely, by the richest of the Chechens." That was written about the Chechen eating habits in the 19th century.
