Russian gas companies to halt deliveries to Belarus

Independent gas suppliers Itera Holding and TransNafta informed Gazprom on January
22 that the gas quantities ordered by Beltransgaz for January has been delivered
in full and the Belarus company had been pumping unauthorized amounts since January
16. In view of this, independent gas suppliers will stop their deliveries to
Belarus at midnight on January 24.

Belarus official denounces Russian decision to cut gas supplies

The director of the Belarussian gas transport company Beltranshaz, Pyotr Pyotukh,
has described Thursday's announcement by Russia to halt gas supplies to Belarus
by the independent suppliers Itera Holding and Transneft as inappropriate and
groundless.

Families of missing men in Belarus accuse officials of obstructing investigation

The families of four men who went missing in 1999 and 2000 appealed to the State
Security Committee (KGB) on Thursday insisting that criminal action be taken
against top officials whom they accused of seeking to block the investigation
of the disappearances.

Belarusian border guards search opposition leaders 

The Five-Plus Popular Coalition [includes the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada,
the BPF-Revival Party [Belarusian People's Front], the Party of Communists of
Belarus, the Belarusian Labour Party and the United Civic Party] has described
the incident with the leaders of six political parties on the Belarusian-Polish
border on 19 January as "a provocation" and "a nervous reaction by the authorities"
to the creation of the democratic bloc, a special statement by the Five released
on 21 January reads.
