RUSSIAN PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN YEREVAN
Armenian President Robert Kocharyan with spouse welcomed the guests at the airport. On March 25 the two leaders will have a vis-a-vis meeting, which will result in a joint press conference. The presidents will also participate in the meetings with Armenian and Russian high-ranking officials. Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II will receive the Russian president. Robert Kocharyan and Vladimir Putin will attend a solemn ceremony of opening of Russian year in Armenia at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet after A.Spendiarov. March 25 in the evening the Russian delegation headed by President Putin will leave Yerevan. CAR OF CHIEF OF ARMENIA'S CUSTOMS COMMITTEE BLOWN UP YEREVAN, MARCH 24. ARMINFO. The car of the chief of Armenia's Customs Committee Armen Avetissyan was blown up today 10:00 am while approaching to the customs office building. Avetissyan was there but was not injured. The police are inquiring into the incident. In its post-incident statement the committee says that this might be a response to its active measures to fight shadow economy and to toughen customs administration. The committee says that it will continue its battle against customs violations and contraband. "Today's incident has shown that our measures are effective," says the committee. TWO QUAKES REGISTERED IN TURKEY LAST NIGHT YEREVAN, 24. ARMINFO. Two strong earthquakes shocked Turkey last night. The National Seismic Service of Armenia reports that 5.5 and 4.7 point quakes took place 65 km north-east of Bingol 01:44 and 03:43 am. In the epicenter the magnitude was 8 and 7 points respectively on 12-point MSK-64 scale. No casualties reported. YEREVAN, MARCH 24. ARMINFO. Armenia is 120th on the FIFA ranking for Mar 2005. Armenia's Mar 26 and 30 rivals in World Cup 2006 qualification Andorra and Netherlands are 139th and 7th respectively. Russian President Vladimir Putin is arriving in Yerevan on a task visit today evening, reports the press office of Armenia's president. Friday the Russian and Armenian presidents will have a tete-a-tete and full delegation meetings to later give a joint press-conference. Putin will meet with Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. Then together with Kocharian will be present at the opening ceremony of the Year of Russia in Armenia to be held at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Putin will leave Yerevan Friday evening.

YOUTH AND STUDENTS OF ARMENIA PROTEST AGAINST ARRIVAL OF PHILIPPE KIRKOROV IN YEREVAN

POLISH AUTHORITIES WANT TO DEPORT 15-YEAR OLD ARMENIAN GIRL THOUGH HER FATHER HAS RESIDENTIAL PERMIT YEREVAN, MARCH 24. ARMINFO. Polish authorities want to deport 15-year old Armenian girl Anna Bocholyan, despite the fact that her father Suren Bocholyan received residential permit, informs Polish newspaper. According to the source, Anna studies at a Polish gymnasia. She cannot write and understands Armenian language badly. She has lived in Poland with her father since 1995 as her parents are divorced. Suren Bocholyan received residential permit two years ago and wanted to receive it for his daughter too, however, he was denied by Polish authorities. They obliged Anna to leave the country within 7 days. S. Bocholyan rebels as Anna knows nobody in Armenia. Director of gymnasia Iolanta Libzik speaks well about Anna and expresses regret concerning Polish authorities' decision. Representative of Helsinki Committee on Human Rights Magdalena rebels with the decision, too. ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT ADOPTS BILL ON AMENDMENTS TO RA LAW ON EXPORT AND IMPORT OF CULTURAL VALUES
MP Hranuysh Hakobyan says that the bill proposes establishment of a government body which will determine the list of the authors who died during the last 50 years. Their works can be exported from the country only in case of a state certificate for export. Head of the United Labor Party Gurgen Arsenyan stated that the bill did not proceed from the interests of our culture and that artists themselves were against it. To note, the law approved by the parliament in late 2004 was not as tough as the former law. It reduces the state duties for the export of cultural values and simplifies the procedure of their temporary export-import. Also simplified is the uncertified export of pictures and works of art if they are no more than 50 years old except for the works by dead authors included in the government's list. The delegation, headed by the president of RUssian Federation, will leave Yerevan in Friday evening. BIRDS BECOME REASON FOR DELAY OF FLIGHTS AT "ZVARTNOTS" AIRPORT YEREVAN, MARCH 23. ARMINFO. Three Airbuses A-320 of the national air carrier of Armenia "Armavia" company are simultaneously subjected to technical examination because of birds getting into the turbines of airliners. Executive for Public Relations of the company Garik Siroyan informs ARMINFO that birds have got into the turbines of three planes that landed at the airport yesterday and today early in the morning. Because of the heavy snow, birds prefer "walking" along the runway than sitting on trees. He says, at present the technical service of the company examines the engines of four planes damaged by the birds, Siroyan says. In this connection, the company's flight to Dubai and the 512th flight to Moscow are delayed. He could not explain whether the planes of other companies had such problems at the airport. To note, the airport's relevant service is to scare away birds from the airport, which is not done at present. ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO 19 VILLAGES OF ARMENIAN REGION OF VAYOTS DZOR RESTORED YEREVAN, MARCH 23. ARMINFO. Electricity supply to 19 villages of Vayots Dzor region cut due to heavy snowfall has been restored. The press-service of the Armenian Governmental Emergency Situations Department informs ARMINFO. According to the source, in 7 villages restoration works are in process, a total of 26 villages suffered electricity cut. Besides, electricity supply to the villages of Narek and Kaghtsrashen, Ararat region, has been restored. However, the telephone communication in these villages has not been restored yet. CONFLICTS BETWEEN COSSACKS AND ARMENIANS IN NOVOROSSIYSK NOVOROSSIYSK, MARCH 23. ARMINFO. Some 200 Cossacks have organized pogroms in one of the districts in Novorrosiysk. According to the newspaper "Yerkramas," persons of Armenian nationality as well as their cars, cafes and shops were subjected to pogroms. The reason of the conflict was a quarrel in a cafe between Armenians, Greeks who celebrated a birthday, and Cossacks who approached them headed by Ataman of the local Cossacks Community Vladimir Petrushin. The latter was taken to hospital wherein he underwent surgical operation. The health stated is assessed as stable at present. A criminal case was initiated on Article 282 (stirring up of national, racial and religious enmity) of the CC of RF. Novorossiysk Mayor Vladimir Sinyagovskiy held an extreme discussion with representatives of national communities of the city and stated that those guilty would be exposed and punished. An agreement was reached not to aggravate the tension and restrain the emotions of the conflicting parties. The local Armenian cultural society "Luys" states that the Armenian party strictly observed these agreements calling its compatriots for calmness and guarantying that the law-enforcement structures control over the situation. Georgian frontier guards will ceremonially hand on the symbolic baton dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War to their Armenian colleagues on Bagratashen Bridge bordering with Georgia at 15:00 today. The Frontier Troops of the National Security Service of Armenia inform ARMINFO that the symbolic baton will be taken wither by Commander of the Frontier Troops of NSS of Armenia Colonel Vyacheslav Voskanyan or his Assistant Lt.Colonel Armen Muradyan. Handing on the symbol to each other, the Armenian frontier guards will take it along the state border of Armenia with Georgia and on March 26 in the Armenian town of Gyumri it will be handed on to the Command of the Frontier Department of the RF Federal Service. Russian frontier guards, in their turn, will take the symbol around the periphery of the state border of Armenia protected by the Frontier Department of Federal Security Service of Russia (frontier contingents in Gyumri, Meghri, Artashat and Armavir). On April 4 at 11:00 Yerevan time a solemn ceremony of finish will take place in Yerevan Park of Victory with participation of the Commands of Frontier Troops of the NSS of Armenia and the Frontier Department of FSS of Russia. ARMENIAN STUDENTS TO ORGANIZE PILGRIMAGE ON THE OCCASION OF HOLY EASTER YEREVAN, MARCH 23. ARMINFO. Pan-University congregation of the Armenian Apostolic Church will organize a pilgrimage on March 26 to Yerevan Cathedral Church of St.Grigor Lusavorich on the occasion of the Holy Easter. ARMINFO was informed in the press office of the Pan-University congregation of AAC, the pilgrims will arrive to the building of the Cathedral and take part in the Liturgy. An artistic arrangement with the participation of students of the institutes of higher education of the country will be organized not far from the Cathedral. About 2,000 students of 20 state and non-state institutes of higher education of Yerevan, as well as representatives of youth councils of churches will take part in the pilgrimage. CONFLICTS BETWEEN COSSACKS AND ARMENIANS WERE PROVOKED BY THIRD PARTY: "YERKRAMAS" NEWSPAPER YEREVAN, MARCH 23. ARMINFO. Conflicts between Cossacks and Armenians, perhaps, were provoked by the third party, purposely not to allow mass actions of Armenian Diaspora at the Turkish General Consulate in Novorossiysk planned on April 24, says the statement of Russian Armenians' "Yerkramas" newspaper. Armenian Diaspora of Kuban plans various propagandistic actions in connection with the 90th anniversary of Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey. The mass-meeting at the Turkish Consulate is among them. Now, after the occurrence, Novorossiysk officials probably not to allow conducting this action justifying their decision with concern of keeping law and order in the city. To remind, in Mar 22 evening about 100-200 Cossacks made disorders in an Novorossiysk district. They fell on Armenian peoples and their cars and commercial buildings. The conflict was caused by Mar 21 night incident in city's cafe. Cossacks headed by ataman Vladimir Petrushin came to a group of youth Greeks and Armenians.
