The 15th conference of the regional group of the Basle Committee for banking supervision of the countries of the Transcaucasus, Central Asia and CIS, has started its work in Yerevan. Representatives of the national banks of Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan take part in the conference. Te delegation of Azerbaijan did not arrive in Yerevan for objective reasons. Issues related to development of the banking systems of their countries, problems connected with banking supervision, tasks on prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism through banking system, will be discussed during the conference. Besides, effective of use of main principles of banking supervision of Basle Committee will be discussed. Chairman of the Armenian Central Bank Tigran Sargsyan opened the event, telling about the measures on banking supervision in Armenia, preparation for introduction of major principles of banking supervision (Basle-2). Negotiations for organization of Armenian Ombudsman Larisa Alaverdyan's visit to Equatorial Guinea are continued, the press-service of Armenian Ombudsman Office reports to ARMINFO. According to the source, Alaverdyan has recently addressed a letter to CE Human Rights Commissioner Alvaro Hill-Robles asking for assistance in observation of the rights of Armenian pilots accused allegedly for an attempted state coup in the capital of Equatorial Guinea - Malabo. She also asks for contribution to establishment of contacts with relevant persons and organization in Equatorial Guinea. To note, earlier the Ombudsman applied to "Amnesty International" for organization of the visit Equatorial Guinea for a meeting with all the bodies who can influence the mitigate the conditions of service of sentence of the Armenian pilots. The court sentenced the commander of the Armenian airliner to 24 years and other pilots to 14 years of imprisonment on Nov 26 2004. The lawyer of the Armenian pilots intend to appeal against the unfair sentence of the country to the Supreme Court of Equatorial Guinea and to international judicial instance should need arise. Chairman of the Ccmmission Ashot Shahnazaryan informs journalists of the results of the commisison's acitivty. He says that CJSC ArmenTel has been among unfair rivals for already several years. It has provided all Armenian number in the Internet services market to the company ArmenCel, hereby-creating unequal rights for other participants of the market. The list also includes in it the CJSC International Airports Armenia, which raised the prices for aviation kerosene having no grounds for it, at the same time having a monopoly in the market. The Commission exposed that OJSC Aeroflot Don prevented a second flight Roston-on-Don-Giumry-Roston-on-Don and this obstacle was liquidated due to interference of the commission. ARMENIAN TANKS NOT REPAIRED IN GEORGIA YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 2. ARMINFO. Armenian tanks are not repaired at the Tbilisi tank repairing plant, says the spokesman of Armenia's defence ministry Seyran Shakhsuvaryan. In its today's article the Zerkalo newspaper (Baku) claims that Armenian tanks are repaired in Tbilisi and if this practice is continued this issue will be raised at the Azeri parliament. Zerkalo refers to Nezavisimaya Gazeta (Moscow) as reporting that the only tank repairing facility in the region the plant has been given by the Russian Military Group in the South Caucasus to Georgia's Defence Ministry. The transfer was agreed on by the Russian and Georgian DMs in late 2004. Georgia's DM has pledged to preserve the plant's specialization and staff and not to prevent the repairs of Russian armoured equipment. Zerkalo reminds that several years ago Azerbaijan charged Georgia with helping unfriendly Armenia and denied similar assistance by Georgia and the Russian Military Group in the South Caucasus. Both the Georgian and Azeri DMs have refused to comment on the issue.
