PACE RESOLUTION ON NAGORNY KARABAKH CANNOT HAVE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES ON KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT, BUT IT COULD HAVE POLITICAL INFLUENCE ON IT YEREVAN, JANUARY 26. ARMINFO. PACE resolution on Nagorny Karabakh cannot have any legal consequences on the process of settlement of Karabakh conflict, however, it could have political influence on it as it shows the official position of PACE. Mher Shahgeldyan, Head of the Parliamentary Commission for Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, Vice Chairman of "Orinats Yerkir" party told ARMINFO commenting on PACE resolution on Nagorny Karabakh adopted the day before. He noted that there are numerous provisions in the document undesirable for the Armenian party. At the same time, the statements proceeded from its interests are also included there. According to him, a provision verifying that "the territory can get independence if its population reaches it on the basis of democratic processes" is among them. The people of Nagorny Karabakh got its independence just in a democratic way, he noted. "Besides, it is said in the document that no decision can be imposed on the people of Nagorny Karabakh, which is also within the interests of Armenian side, M. Shahgeldyan added. The Board of the Bloc of National Democrats party led by MP Arshak Sadoyan met today to censure the actions of its activist Vardan Grigoryan who called a special meeting Tuesday to discuss Sadoyan's statements which in his opinion had discredited the Justice bloc and his party. The Board said that it was puzzled by Grigoryan's actions especially as he failed to explain when and where Sadoyan said words discrediting the Justice bloc but refused to take his words back and left the meeting. To note, in the beginning of 1990s' about 51,000 Russians were living in Armenia, half of them of Molokanian religion. Only 5,000 Molokans are living in Armenia nowadays, of them 2,000 in Yerevan. Representative of the bloc "Rodina" of the State Duma of Russian Federation Natalya Narochinskaya blamed members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for using dual standards.
