The Information Channel Felist.Com -*-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear frends! Arminfo news agency inform SUMQAYIT WAS FIRST PROOF THAT KARABAKH COULD NOT REMAIN PART OF AZERBAIJAN: NKR PRESIDENT STEPANAKERT, MARCH 1. ARMINFO. Sumqayit was the first proof that Karabakh could no longer remain part of Azerbaijan, says NKR President Arkady Ghoukassyan. Karabakh has repeatedly expressed commitment to start a dialogue with Azerbaijan but "in order to develop correct mechanisms of future relations we should first make an appropriate assessment of the past," says Ghoukassyan. AZERI AUTHORITIES CONNIVE AT CRIMES: NKR PRESIDENT STEPANAKERT, MARCH 1. ARMINFO. Speaking of barbarism we do not mean the people we have live side by side with but the authorities who connive at crimes, says Karabakh's President Arkady Ghoukassyan commenting on the recent attempt of an Azeri subversive group to cross the Karabakh-Azeri contact line. This is the result of the Azeri government's anti-Armenian propaganda. People living in an atmosphere of encouraged hostility can do anything, says Ghoukassyan noting that the international community should make an appropriate assessment of the past crimes by the Azeri side, particularly, the Armenian massacres in Sumqayit.- GENOCIDES ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN: ARMENIA'S PRESIDENT YEREVAN, MARCH 1. ARMINFO. The genocide-type crimes are never forgotten. With some time people begin to talk less about them but a small impulse is enough to set them talking again with even greater ardor. And so the best way to keep the tensions down is to repent, Armenia's President Robert Kocharyan said while laying flowers Feb 28 to the monument of the victims of the 1988 Sumqayit events. Responding by massacres to the peaceful rallies in Karabakh the Azeri authorities showed that it was not safe for Armenians to live in Azerbaijan and that Karabakh could no longer remain part of that country. "We did our best to give appropriate publicity to the Sumqayit events. But it was 1988, we lived in a closed country despite the nascent perestroyka and glasnost." Until the Karabakh conflict is settled war is still a probability. But this will depend on the distribution of forces in the region, our military and economic capacities. "We should link this issue first of all with internal political stability and our army." "Our response to the Azeri bellicose rhetoric is as follows: we did not fear it in either 1988 or 1992; nor do we fear it today."
