ARMENIA's OPPOSITION BEWILDERED BY AUTHORITIES' SILENCE OVER ARTICLE IN RUSSIAN NEWSPAPER

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 17. ARMINFO. If Armenian Minister of Defense Serge Sargssian does not respond to the statement made by the ex-minister of defense Vaharshak Harutiunian that the former allegedly tried to get guarantees of Russia's support in case of aggravation of the domestic political situation in Armenia, the RA Prosecutor's Office must conduct an investigation and demand explanations from the Minister of Defense, Aram Sargssian, a representative of the opposition bloc "Justice", stated in Parliament today.

Serge Sargssian must refute this statement, because it blurs not only his reputation, but also that of Armenia, Aram Sargssian said. He expressed his bewilderment at the authorities' silence. "The silence on the part of the Minister of Defense and the authorities only testifies that the statement is true," the deputy said.

However, the Russian Embassy in Armenia issued a statement refuting the information published by the "Nezavisimaya Gazeta." According to the statement, the dissemination of such information is a provocation aimed at undermining the Armenian-Russian relations.

DISSEMINATION OF UNRELIABLE INFORMATION PROVOCATION: RF EMBASSY IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 17. ARMINFO. The Russian Embassy in Armenia issued a statement refuting the information contained in the article "Time-trouble in Armenia Parliament" published by the "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" and reprinted by the Armenian "Haykakan Zkamanak" newspaper.

According to the information reported to ARMINFO, Armenian Minister of Defense Serge Sargssian, who was on a visit to Moscow, allegedly tried to get guarantees of support from Russian military base #102 stationed in Armenia in case the domestic political situation in the country gets aggravated. in its statement, the RF Embassy points out that this information does not correspond to the facts.

According to the statement, the Russian military base is stationed in Armenia under the Armenian-Russian Agreement on the Russian military base in Armenia, which was signed in 1995 and aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region. Under the Agreement, "the Russian military base, the persons forming its staff, as well as their families shall respect the sovereignty, observe the legislation of the Republic of Armenia and shall not interfere in its internal affairs." The dissemination of groundless information by the Armenian press is a sheer provocation and is aimed at undermining the Russian-Armenian equitable cooperation.
