ARMENIAN DEFENSE MINISTRY CALLS INADMISSIBLE AZERBAIJAN'S ATTEMPTS TO PREVENT ARMENIAN OFFICERS FROM PARTICIPATING IN NATO MILITARY EXERCISES IN AZERBAIJAN YEREVAN, JANUARY 9. ARMINFO. The Armenian Defense Ministry calls inadmissible Azerbaijan's position reflected in the attempts to prevent Armenian officers from participating in NATO military exercises in Azerbaijan. According to the information received by ARMINFO from the Department for Information and Propaganda of the Armenia Defense Ministry, on the one hand, in conformity with the statements of the defense and foreign ministries of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani party is ready to allow Armenian officers to participate in the conference to be held in Baku, forestalling the military exercises. However, on the other hand, the statements by the head of the Organization for Karabakh Liberation Akif Nagi and the refusal of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tbilisi to issue entry visas to Armenian officers allow thinking that the Azerbaijani party tries to prevent Armenians' participation in the conference as well, hereby violating the demands of NATO Program "Partnership for Peace." The authors of the statement express confidence that Azerbaijan's behavior is inadmissible both for NATO signatory-states and partner-states and that these states will adhere to their principles and further demand Azerbaijan to allow the Armenian party's participation in the conference. If the Armenian delegation headed by Colonel Murad Isakhanyan does not manage to receive visas in Tbilisi, it will try to get them at Baku airport. The Defense Ministry of Armenia is of the opinion that peace and stability in the South Caucasus are possible only through cooperation both under the Program "Partnership for Peace" and through bilateral cooperation, the statement says.
