ANNOUNCEMENT OF MAIN EVENTS FOR 08.02.03 FROM ARMINFO 1. Candidate for presidency, the leader of the party "National consent" Aram Haroutunian met with the electors of Vayots Dzor region. 2. Candidate for presidency, the head of the Center of Strategic Project "Perspective" Aram Karapetian will pay a visit to the regions Syunik and Vayots Dzor. 3. Candidate for presidency, the leader of the People's Party of Armenia Stepan Demirchian will leave for Shirak region. 4. Candidate for presidency, the incumbent President of Armenia Robert Kocharian will continue the pre-election visit to Lori and Tavoush regions. 5. Candidate for presidency, the leader of the party "United Armenians" Rouben Avagian will meet with the electors of Yerevan's community Nor-Nork.
6. The youth organization "Baze" will pay a two-day visit to the
town-resort Jermuk in Vayots Dzor, where the members of the
aforementioned organization intends to carry out an election campaign
in favor of the candidature of the President of Armenia Robert
Kocharian.
SOCHI PREPARES FOR RESUMPTION OF RUSSIAN-ARMENIAN RAILWAY
COMMUNICATION
FEBRUARY 7. By the summer, all the railway stations in Sochi will have been ready for the resumption of railway communication between Russia and the Transcaucasian countries of Armenia and Georgia.
The "Yerkramas" newspaper reports that the Sochi railroaders started
construction and repair work at several railway stations at a time.
"Currently electric trains from Sochi run as far as Sukhumi. But we
hope that out time-table will soon includes the once popular trains
Moscow-Tbilisi and Moscow-Yerevan," Head of the Adler depot Valery
Delov said.
OSCE MISSION HOLDS PLANNED MONITORING ON CONTACT LINE OF NKR AND
AZERBAIJANI ARMED FORCES
FEBRUARY 7. On February 7, the OSCE Mission held a planned monitoring on the contact line of the Armed Forces of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and Azerbaijan near the village of Karmravan, Martakert Region, NKR.
The press service of the NKR Foreign Office told ARMINFO that on the
party of the NKR Defense Army OSCE Personal Representative Andrzej
Kasprzyk headed the observation group. The group included field
officers of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Acting Head, Yan
Repa (Slovakia) and Yevgeni Sharov (Ukraine). The monitoring was held
according to the schedule. Any violations of the cease-fire regime
were not fixed. During the monitoring the officers of the NKR and
Azerbaijan exchanged radio messages. On the NKR party the OSCE
Mission was accompanied by the representatives of the NKR foreign and
defense ministries.
ARMENIA'S AUTHORITIES MAKE EVERY EFFORT NOT FOR ENSURING FAIR
ELECTION, BUT ONLY FOR REELECTION OF ROBERT KOCHARIAN
FEBRUARY 7. The acting authorities of Armenia make every effort not for ensuring fair and free election, but only for Robert Kocharian's reelection the president of the country. The candidate for presidency, the Head of Strategic Project "Perspective" Aram Karapetian has stated today during the meetings with the electors of the towns Masis and Artashat of the Ararat region of Armenia. According to him, the events of Feb 4 in Artashat, when as a result of the fight, provoked by the authorities, the Head of his pre-election team Hayk Baboukhanian was wounded, once more showed that it is necessary to change the whole system of state administration of the country.
He has also stated that he sees the further prosperity of Armenia -
in creation of a State committee of national security, which will
control over the activities of force structures, consisting only of
professionals, as well as in development of industry, construction of
gas pipe-lines through Iran and oil-processing plant, as well as
entry of Armenian goods the wide Russian market. He has also
mentioned that considers necessary to create an independent
investigation group for investigation of the case on the terrorist
act in Armenian parliament in Oct 1999 and following independent
trial over the terrorist and those, who stand behind their back.
Their verdict will be one - death penalty, Aram Karapetian thinks.
ONE OF PARTICIPANTS OF HOOLIGANISM IN ARTASHAT ARRESTED
FEBRUARY 7. One of the participants of hooliganism
in Artashat on Feb 4 was arrested. Armenian Public TV informs, the
resident of the Ararat region, the driver of the car "Gazel" 43 years
old Grigor Ohanian, who had confessed hsi participation in the
disorders, was arrested.
UNKNOWN PERSONS ATTACKED ON REPRESENTATIONS OF PARTY "ORINATS YERKIR"
AND REPUBLICAN PARTY
FEBRUARY 7. Unknown persons committed an assault on the representations of the parties Orinats yerkir and the Republican party of Armenia in the town Ararat of Ararat region of Armenia. Armenian Public TV informed, the attack was committed on the office of the aforementioned political parties, who support the incumbent president, after the pre-election Artashat rally of the opposition candidates - leader of the party "Republic" Aram Sargsian and the Head of the Center of strategic project "Perspective" Aram Karapetian. According to the information of the Public TV, the assailants had smashed up the offices of pre-election staff. An analogous attack was registered in the village Ararat of the Ararat region.
