Today is the 11th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of Independent Armenia. He said as to their technical equipment, the country's armed forces are fully comparable with those of Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia, and even exceed them by some parameters. PRESIDENT HEYDAR ALIYEV AND THE DYNASTY, OFTEN USE THE WAR AS A PRETEXT TO STRENGTHEN THEIR DICTATORIAL GRIP ON POWER JANUARY 28. Today, The Washington Post published NKR Representative Vardan Barseghian's Letter to the Editor, written in response to a January 12 article entitled, "Town's Defiance an Unexpected Test for Azerbaijan". Representative Barseghian's letter is included below: I commend The Post for its honest assessment of the state of democracy in Azerbaijan. President Heydar Aliyev and the dynasty, threatening Nagorno-Karabakh with a new war and the region with greater instability, often use the war as a pretext to strengthen their dictatorial grip on power. Economic development, energy transportation routes, and peace and stability in the strategic South Caucasus heavily depend on shared values and friendship among neighbors in the region, including de facto immediate neighbors Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh. Hopefully, with U.S. encouragement, commitment to true democracy and respect for human rights will be our common guideposts along this road.- MAIN GAS PIPE-LINE TO ARMENIA TO BE RESTORED IN NEAREST FUTURE JANUARY 28. The main gas pipe-line by which Armenia receives natural gas, will be restored in two days. The Chairman of the Board, the Director General of the "ArmRosgasprom" CJSC Karen Karapetian told ARMINFO. According to him, currently the republic receives hydrocarbon gases by reserve branch of the gas pipe-line, which, nevertheless, allowed to reduce the tensity in the power complex of the country. Karen Karapetian added that after the gas supply the electricity supply to Georgia was also resumed. The agreement with "AES-Telasi", in accordance with which the "ArmRosgasprom" CJSC undertook the obligation to supply 120 MW electricity to Tbilisi's consumers from Jan 1 to Jan 31, was prolonged till Feb 8. USA's RECOGNITION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE DEPENDS ON TURKEY's INVOLVEMENT IN ANTI-IRAQI CAMPAIGN JANUARY 28. The issue of recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey can be included in the agenda of the US Congress provided Turkey refuses to be involved in the USA's anti-Iraqi campaign. This opinion was expressed in one of the programs of the Turkish NTV channel yesterday. Participating in the program were historians, political figures and scientists from Turkey, Armenia and other countries of the region. The participants pointed out that the bill on recognition of the Armenian Genocide, which was drafted under President Bill Clinton and was not included in the agenda of the US Congress on the request of the White House, can be actualized depending on the developments round Iraq.
