YEREVAN AND BRATISLAVA ACTIVATE CONTRACTUAL BASIS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF BILATERAL RELATION

FEBRUARY 26. Yerevan and Bratislava are activating preparation of contractual basis for development of bilateral relations. The President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, who was in Slovakia with a two-days visit, stated. In the course of the meeting in Bratislava the Presidents of Armenia and Slovakia Robert Kocharian and Rudolf Shuster discussed a wide circle of economic and political problems. "Despite the visit's brevity, we discussed the whole block of bilateral relations", Robert Kocharian said. The heads of two states pointed out that there are no political problems between Yerevan and Bratislava, but the economic turnover is on the lowest level. According to Kocharian, the absence of contractual basis is the reason of it. In the course of the meeting its participants again underlined that the integration into the European space is the strategic aim of both states. Both Armenia and Slovakian got the same post-soviet inheritance and the Slovakian experience may be useful to Armenia, Robert Kocharian. Touching upon the problem of peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the President of Armenia pointed out that Nagorny Karabakh has all the legal bases for its recognition as an independent state. The problem is in a civilized separation of NKR from Azerbaijan, which was brilliantly demonstrated by the example of Czech and Slovakia. Speaking about Armenians' genocide of 1915 in Ottoman Turkey, Robert Kocharian again confirmed the position of Armenia in this problem. For his part the President of Slovakia promised henceforth not to hinder holding arrangements on April 24 in the country, dedicated to the memory of genocide's victims. Armenian side also promised to support Slovakia in the issue of its appointment the interim member of UN Security Council in 2006-2007.

NOYAN TAPAN EDITORIAL OFFICE - THIRD PARTY IN HSBC vs GOLOS ARMENII-YERKIR CASE

FEBRUARY 26. The Noyan Tapan Editorial Office appeared Feb 25 as a third party to the HSBC Bank Armenia's suit against the Golos Armenii and Yerkir dailies. HSBC accuses the dailies of libel. Last year the dailies published Noyan Tapan's report accusing HSBC of computer piracy. Director General of Noyan Tapan Tigran Haroutyunyan said Noyan Tapan immediately met the bank's demand to make corrections in the text. He said Noyan Tapan's report was based on a press-conference given by the author of the fonts, Ruben Hakopyan, and cannot be considered an allegation as Hakopyan's words were used with reference to him. Such a report can be refuted only after a corresponding verdict by a trial court that it is not true. Haroutyunyan said Hakopyan gave an exclusive interview to Noyan Tapan where he said that his unlicensed fonts were used as software which can be considered a breach of copyright and consequently a computer piracy. Lawyer Zaruhi Daniyelyan defending the dailies in court petitioned the court to attach to the case a document signed by heads of various media responding to the question "wether or not they check the information received from news agencies and if not then why." The document says that all those questioned accounted for their not checking the report by the fact that in the long run it's the source that should answer for what he said in case it proves to be false. The next hearing is to be held Feb 28. According to Noyan Tapan the hearings of the Ruben Hakopyan vs HSBC Bank Armenia case have been postponed until the defendant-bank provides the court and the claimant with a copy of the contract or at least until it introduces the producer of the advertisement hoarding to them. The trial is delayed because no such contract has been found and the producer is outside Armenia.
