THERE WERE BASIC DIFFERENCES BETWEEN AUTHORITIES AND ME: ALBERT
BAZEYAN
FEBRUARY 16.Chairman of the "Republic" party, ex-mayor of Yerevan Albert Bazeyan regards as groundless the accusations brought against representatives of his party that they joined the opposition only because they were deprived of their posts in the executive power. According to him, when holding posts, the party's representatives had their own opinions on certain issues, which was the reason for their being relieved of the posts. Bazeyan added that only political figures who did not discredited themselves could for an opposition. Bazeyan has essential differences with the president during his mayorship. In particular, he encountered serious difficulties in battling corruption and other violations of law without support on the part of the country's top officials. According to Bazeyan, there were also disagreements over personnel issues. He pointed out that when mayor he never followed the instructions from above. Disagreements also arose when the Yerevan Municipality permitted certain opposition forces to hold rallies, Bazeyan said. Bazeyan cited a number of examples. For instance, when he intended to dismissed his deputy for numerous violations, the prime minister interceded for him, saying that Minister of Defense Serge Sargssian is against. Bazeyan also objected to the construction of a hotel in the "Victory" park, but the president invited him to a meeting and literally forced him to sign a relevant permit. Bazeyan also stated that during his mayorship he did not commit any violations.
