TURKISH LEADERSHIP BELIEVES IT IS OBLIGED TO SUPPORT AZERBAIJAN IN CONDUCTING "ANTI-TERROR" OPERATION IN KARABAKH

OCTOBER 31. The Turkish leadership is inclined to consider itself obliged to support Azerbaijan in conducting an "anti-terror" operation in Karabakh. It is noteworthy that this support is not going to be merely political, the Zerkalo (Mirror) Baku daily reports referring to reliable sources. It reports that the military-political leadership of Turkey discussed the issue a few days ago. Turkish analists think that Turkey must undertake diplomatic steps to neutralize the negative response received from the leading powers and international organizations to the conduct of "the anti-terror operation" in Karabakh. Secondly, Ankara will try to use its diplomatic channels to prevent Russia's direct active involvement in the armed conflict. Thirdly, Turkey will do its best to neutralize the possible retaliation on the part of Armenia with respect to Nakhitchevan (a part of Azerbaijan separated from it by an Armenian territory and bordering on Turkey).

OCTOBER 31. The trial of the ex-deputy of the National Assembly, member of the Board of the "Independence Army" public organization Azat Arshakian will begin at the lower court of Yerevan's Center and Nork-Marash districts on November 14. Talking to ARMINFO, Arshakian's lawyer Robert Grigorian said that court sittings will be chaired by Judge Ruben Nersissian. We would remind you that Azat Arshakian was detained on September 14, after a large quantity of weapons was discovered in the premises belonging tom him. The Prosecutor General's Office charged him with unlawful purchase and keeping of weapons and ammunition. Arshakian's lawyer claims that there are no sufficient grounds for Arshakian's being prosecuted and kept in custody. Grigorian also reported that there are all legal grounds for Arshakian's acquittal, but he doubts that the court will return a verdict of not guilty.
