AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF ARMENIA IS 10 YEARS OLD

OCTOBER 4. The American University of Armenia (AUA) is not only a higher educational institution but also a place where people seek to promote the country's full development, AUA president, Dr Aroutyun Armenyan said during a press-conference today. He said the university has trained thousands of experts in management, business, law, international relations and architecture over the past decade. All of them work by their specialities both inside and outside the country. This year the AUA has opened new courses of IT masters. Besides, Armenyan said the university carries out researches in health care, ecology and culture legacy of Armenia. It has created an e-library of Armenian literature this year, comprising works of Armenian writers and historians of IV-XVIII. This library has been granted a state award. The university is going to set about implementing a program at the Nork-Marash hospital soon to enhance the qualification of the hospital's doctors.

IT NAIVE TO HOPE FOR ARMENIAN PRESIDENT'S IMPEACHMENT IN ARMENIA'S PRESENT POLITICAL SITUATION

OCTOBER 4. It is naive to hope for the Armenian President's impeachment in Armenia's present political situation. Talking to journalists today, Leader of the National Democratic Union (NDU) Party Vazgen Manukyan made this statement commenting upon an initiative of the country's several political forces to start a procedure of the president's impeachment. He said that the present political situation is dangerous for Armenia. The NDU leader believes that there are two political forces in Armenia opposing each other, and the victory of either of them may become mortal for the other side. The matter concerns the Armenian president and the newly created opposition bloc, which included in it the "Hanrapetutiun" party, the People's Party of Armenia and the "National Union." In this connection, Manukyan pointed out the necessity for formation of a third force. At the same time Manukyan could not say whether he will join one of these forces. He did not answered the question about his possible participation in the presidential elections either.

PER-MINUTE FEE FOR LOCAL PHONE CALLS NOT APPLIED IN ARMENIA AT PRESENT

OCTOBER 4.The system of per-minute fee for local phone calls is not being applied in Armenia, chairman of the special parliamentary commission for ArmenTel, leader of the National-Democratic Union party Vazgen Manoukyan told journalists today, referring to governmental sources. He said during a meeting of the ArmenTel board of directors recently Armenian government representatives reasoned why the government does not accept the itroduction of the above fee. They said ArmenTel should have notified the Armenian government about its intention to introduce the fee 60 days before the day of its introduction. Besides, ATXs of most of ArmenTel subscribers have not so far been made digital, so, subscribers may find themselves in unequal conditions, which runs counter to the license given to ArmenTel by the country' government. Manoukyan said he is convinced that the country's parliament is going to amend the law on telecoms to legalize the ban on the introduction of the per-minute payments.

ARMENIA'S AUTHORITIES MORALLY KILL PEOPLE AND THEIR OVERTHROW IS ONLY WAY TO EMERGE FROM THIS SITUATION

OCTOBER 4. Armenia's government morally killed the people and its overthrow is the only way to emerge from this situation, second secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia (CPA) Sanatruk Saakyan. He said it is necessary to consolidate the Armenian society to fight against the country's authorities, who do not represent anything. The rally organized by the CPA and aimed against the social-economic situation created in the country, gathered up to 2,000 people. During the rally CPA activists once more declared for Armenia's joining the Russia-Belarus Union and for nationalizing the sold enterprises. CPA representatives also pronounce against the sale of installations having strategical importance for the country in their opinion The ralliers adopted a resolution saying the CPA is displeased with the internal and external policy of the government, increasing emigration and unemployment. The authors of the resolution demand that the president should start the process of Armenia's joining the Russia-Belarus Union and should make changes to he country's constitution.

ARMENIA'S GOVERNMENT IS READY TO DEFEND AT COURT EACH SUBSCRIBER WHOSE PHONE HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED BY ARMENTEL

Armenia's government is ready to be a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the ArmenTel telecom monopolist in case it has disconnected the phone of a subscriber who has not paid the per-minute fee for local phone calls (inside Yerevan only), Armenia's transport and communication minister Andranik Manoukayn told journalists today. He said the subscriber will only have to lodge a complaint to the transport and communication ministry that his phone has been disconnected. Manoukyan reminded that the monthly rental fee for local phone calls is 900 drams for individuals including VAT and 2,700 drams for legal entities. Manoukyan urged subscribers not to pay more than that sum.

PASSENGERS AND CREW OF AN-24 PLANE OF "ARMENIAN AIRLINES" BECAME WITNESSES OF CATASTROPHE OF PLANE TU-154, WHICH FELL INTO BLACK SEA

OCTOBER 4. The passengers and the crew of the AN-24 plane of "Armenian airlines" became the witnesses of the catastrophe of the TU-154 plane, which fell into the Black Sea. As the "Freedom" radio station informs with a reference to the Main board of the civil aviation of Armenia, the pilot of the plane, bounding for the flight Simferopol-Yerevan, saw how the TU-154 fell into the sea. At the same time, according to the information of Russian mass media, the rescuers have already found bodies of two died in the result of the catastrophe. There have been 66 passengers on board the plane. It fell into the Black Sea at 185 south-west far from Sochi. The depth of the sea in the place of the supposed fall is 1 km. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin assumes the possibility of perpetration of a terroristic act on board the plane, suffered catastrophe.

INITIATIVE GROUP OF PEOPLE'S'S MOVEMENT "CITIZENS AGAINST TERROR OF ARMENTEL" HAS BEEN CREATED

As the Pan-Armenian informs, the document, in particular, says: "Today under the pretence of advertisement, explanatory work and concluding agreements with subscribers the telecommunications monopolist the "ArmenTel" company does everything for forcing the psychosis among wide layers of the population The existing legal field is enough for call the "ArmenTel" to order and delay the introduction of the per-minute fee. The Initiative group of people's movement "Citizens against terror of ArmenTel" calls "not to give way to false promises of the telecommunications occupant and mass media, which serve for it, relating to improvement of quality of communication and reduction of prices for services, not pay the accounts for intracity talks, to come out with juridical suits, if the representatives of the ArmenTel infringe upon our rights".

VERSION OF DEATH AS RESULT OF ELECTROCUTION OF FORMER DEFENDANT ACCUSED OF TERRORIST ACT IN PARLIAMENT NORAYR EGHIAZARYAN AROUSES CONCERN OF PARLIAMENTARY DEPUTES

OCTOBER 4.A version of death as a result of the former defendant accused of terrorist act in the Parliament Norayr Eghiazaryan arouses concern of the National Assembly deputies. It was announced today at a regular sitting of the Parliamentary Interim Commission studying consequences of the terrorist act. According to the deputy Napoleon Azizyan, the concern aroused after the commission members' visit to the Nubarashen Insulator #1, where Norayr Eghiazaryan was held in custody. The statement of the former chief of the board of the Ministry of internal affairs of Armenia on the execution of criminal punishments Mushegh Saghatelyan about the participation of the President Robert Kocharyan and the defence minister Serzh Sargsyan in organizing the terrorist act in Armenian parliament contradicts his testimonies, given to the Prosecutor General's Office. The press office of the Prosecutor General's Office informed ARMINFO. As it is known, on Oct 3 Saghatelyan informed the journalists that some Haroutiun Grigoryan was going to give to him evidences about the participation of the President and the defence minister in organizing the terrorist act. But Saghatelyan understood that Grigoryan has been specially sent by powers and tore his testimony. Besides, according to the information of the General Procuracy, Saghatelyan in his testimonies stated that he considered the fact of the participation of Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan in the terrorist act as a nonsense and that's why he tore the evidences of Grigoryan. Besides, Grigoryan informed that Saghatelyan had promised him $50,000 for false testimonies against the president and the defence minister. A criminal proceedings have been brought on the basis of this statement. Moreover, it turned out that when he started work in the system of the Ministry of internal affairs Saghatelyan had presented a forged diploma on the higher education.
