were detained in London with demand of debt payment on Tuesday.
ACTION OF PROTEST AGAINST INTRODUCTION OF PER-MINUTE PAYMENT SYSTEM
FOR LOCAL CALLS IN ARMENIA TO BE HELD OCTOBER 6 IN YEREVAN
OCTOBER 3. An action of protest against introduction of the per-minute payment system for local calls in Armenia is to be held at the Yerevan Freedom square on October 6. Armenian Parliamentary deputy Arshak Sadoyan made this statement today at the Armenian National Assembly (NA). He said that many political forces in Armenia will support this initiative. Sadoyan believes that the statements made by the government, the president's administration and by several NA deputies about the agreement with the ArmenTel company on rejecting the introduction of the above system are not true. The most effective method against the per-minute payment system is its interdiction by a new law. Sadoyan called mass media representatives to publish telephone numbers of parliamentarians in order to allow citizens to rang up and express their opinion referring the above system. This will force the parliamentarians to adopt a relevant law, Sadoyan said. Sadoyan also said that recently he attended the session of the ArmenTel's Council of Directors as an observer. The opinion of Armenian government holding 10% shares in ArmenTel, practically, was not taken into account. The deputy said that the question of the per-minute payment system and other questions referring to ArmenTel's actvities are settled at more high level. For instance, the problem was disccused in details during Armenian President Robert Kocharyan's recent meeting with the ArmenTel's Executive Director Nicos Georgoulas. As regards the session of the Council of Directors, it was fictitious, as ArmenTel's unchangeable position was decided beforehand. Sadoyan stated that the Armenian authorities intend to conclude a deal, as a result of which separate high ranking officials will receive $1-1.5 mln income. Sadoyan refused to mention concrete names and reveal details of the deal. However, the deputy promissed to tell everything, in the case if the authorities do not keep their word and do not reach the cancelation of ArmenTel's decision.-M- "VAN" RADIO STATION TO TAKE PART IN INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF AUDIO-REELS "GREEN APPLE" TO TAKE PLACE IN MOSCOW IN NOV OCTOBER 3.The "Van" radio station will take part in the international festival of audio-reels "Green Apple" to take place in Moscow in Nov. The festival was organized by the Siberia radio company with the assistance of the Tomsk mayoralty, the Tomsk cellular networks and some of its media. AZERBAIJAN SEEKS PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF KARABAKH CONFLICT, BUT ARMENIA'S IGNORING PEACE PROCESS MAY RESULT IN DIFFERENT CONSEQUENCES, AZERI FM SAYS OCTOBER 3. Azerbaijan is seeking a peaceful settlement
of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but Armennia's ignoring the peace
process and the international community's opinion may result in
different consequences, Azerbaijanian Foreign Minister Vilayat
Guliyev said, commenting on the Armenian president's statement that
"the unleasher of war in Nagorny Karabakh will lose it."
The Baku-based "Trend" agency quoted the minister as saying that such
statements are not anything new for Azerbaijan, and there is nothing
surprising or serious therein. If one day Azerbaijan has to reject
the negotiations, it will start liberating its lands from
"terrorists" by force, nobody will be able to call it aggression,
and Azerbaijan will be absolutely right, Guliyev said.
"It will not be a military aggression against any state, but a return
of occupied territories," Guliyev stressed. He said that due to the
efforts of the Azerbaijanian deputy group the Council of Europe is
informed of the "illegal operations conducted in the occupied
territories of Azerbaijan." According to Guliyev, these activities
may not be evident, but they yield serious political dividends to
Azerbaijan in the settlement of the Karabakh problem.
