son to see the building on the inside, and his will came true in such a sad
way.

STATE ARCHIVE PREVENTS RESTORATION OF PARAJANOV'S FILM "SAYAT-NOVA"
SEPTEMBER 28. The Armenian State Archive of video-, photo- and audio-documents prevents the restoration of Sergey Parajanov's film "Sayat-Nova" known as "The pome-granate's color." The director Levon Gevorgyan told journalists at the Parajanov's Museum-House in Yerevan. He said that a project of "Sayat-Nova"'s restoration was elaborated, in accordance with Parajanov's scenario. The implementation of the project requires materials which were not included in the film. The materials are kept in the State Archive, the deputy director of which Garegin Zakoyan refused to give the negatives of episodes cut by censors before. Gevorgyan said that the State Archive director explains his position by the fact that being a cinematologist, he cannot allow "self-willed" improvisations on the theme of Maestro's films. According to Gevorgyan, this year the demonstration of Parajanov's films at the Venice Cinematology Festival broke because of the State Archive. To recap, "Sayat-Nova" film shoot in 70s was severely criticized by the Soviet officials. "Many people say that "The pome-granate's color" was quite unclear. And it is fairly, that is why the film was so shred that the topic was broken," Levon Gevorgyan said. As a result of censors' work, the film was renamed to "The pome-granate's color" and became a 2-hour-long one in stead of the previous 4 hours. Moreover, spectators did not see many religious and erotic scenes. "Parajanov's film is property of humanity, and we ought to save it. Making prevention in this case is not good," the director said. The attendants are of the opinion that an ordinary citizen is not protected in his own country.
