The Information Channel Felist.Com -*-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unity Way July 10, 2005 ------------------------------------------------------ Affirmative Attitude: Peace by Andrei Yashurin It have been said that we should let the peace of God "which surpasses all understanding" rule in our hearts. What does it mean? Don't try to intellectualize peace. Don't seek reasons and justifications for it. Just let it be. Just accept its presence and value, and let it flow from within you. Another question is, how do we agree with our inner "adversaries" and establish peace? By bringing in the light of truth. Here is the truth I would like to emphasise: the world is essentially one. Therefore, all fighting against others "out there" is fighting against ourselves. One of the reasons for hostility is a delusion that we live in a separate world which can be divided into "good" and "bad", "acceptable" and "unacceptable", "superior" and "inferior" parts. It is easy to see how separation mentality leads to conflicts with people and conditions. For instance, if we think that we're inferior compared to others, we will tend to become envious and bitter. But if we consider ourselves superior, we will be inclined either to oppress or to "save" others. Some people may actually do both. An excellent example of such an attitude were white Europeans who were coming to America to rob, murder, exploit, and "convert" Indians to Christianity - all at the same time. We don't have to be blind - many of those who call themselves "loving" and "caring" individuals, actually are involved in ego-serving activities. By calling people whom they're seemingly helping "poor", "ignorant", and "miserable creatures" they display their superiority complex. But it is impossible to look down on others without creating mental resistance and strain in relationships. And after it happens, those "benefactors" condemn "ungrateful attitude" of those whom they're trying to "serve". All self-appointed "saviors" who raise their voice in condemning "sins of the world" should better shut their mouths and hear the voice of Jesus: Judge not, that you may not be judged. For with whatever judgment you judge, you shall be judged; and with whatever measure you measure out, it shall be measured to you again. And why do you look on the splinter that is in your brother's eye, but do not consider the beam that is in your own eye? Or how will you say to your brother, Let me pull the splinter out of your eye; and, behold, a beam is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First cast the beam out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly to cast the splinter out of your brother's eye. Matthew 7:1-5 The realization of oneness of the world opens up for us new and exciting perspectives. The world is good; and we cannot judge any part of it without judging the whole. We cannot judge any person without judging ourselves. Abstention from judgments naturally leads us to peace. Be at peace with God. If we think that there is such a thing as "injustice", we subtly condemn God and say that that the world isn't good enough. We deny human responsibility and the law of cause and effect. As long as we persist in such an attitude, we maintain a belief in the separate world, which causes us more troubles than we imagine. Be at peace with the world. It is the emanation of God. It proceeds from the Original Source, and therefore it is essentially divine. When people judge the world, they judge the One who brought it into being and shaped it. Besides, thinking of those who hate the world is distorted. They pay all their attention to so-called "dark spots", not willing to notice bright light which shines everywhere. Be at peace with others. "In all people I see myself", said Walt Whitman. Every person is God's child, and therefore is our sister or brother. We share the same divine nature. The fact that some people can do bad things is of secondary importance compared to their innate goodness. Finally, be at peace with yourself. Even if at this point of your development you are unable to overcome some of your challenges, it doesn't make you a failure. God never makes failures! But all people, like everything in this world, are in the process of growth. Our powers will unfold, and we will reach the desired potential.
