The Bible calls all of us "partakers of divine nature", and
in these articles we stressed it over and over that knowing
of ourselves implies realization of our divinity. But what
is this divine nature? Which qualities come to our minds when
we think of it? It is necessary to answer these questions
in order to go beyond nice words, toward real spiritual
transformation.
In his book "Alter Your Life", Emmet Fox lists seven aspects
of God. They are following:
God is Truth God is Love God is Intelligence God is Soul God is Spirit God is Principle I don't think we need to make from them a new dogma. Perhaps, a better and more inclusive list could be made. However, I find that these are useful ideas which could direct our thinking about God - and, at the same time, lead us to greater awareness of our divine nature. Let us talk about the first aspect, God is Life. We all know what life is, because we all are alive. Yet, there are different levels on which we may experience life. Our understanding of life might be limited, which will results in feelings of dissatisfaction, discontent, and suffering. On the other hand, we may rise to greater awareness of what life is, and become happier and more joyful than ever before. This is why Jesus said, "I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10). He did not give life to people, because life equally belongs to everyone in this universe. However, Jesus increases our understanding of life, which allows us to experience its abundance. As we said, life is present everywhere. "Even stones will worship God". Even immovable stones are full of life - although it is invisible to human eyes. It would be good to perceive ourselves as living beings in the great ocean of life, sharing our life with other living things. There is no such thing as so-called "dead matter". The world is alive with the life of God - the same life which is present within us. Life is dynamic. Life is growth. It never stands still; it is always on the move. If we change and evolve, we are in tune with life. This is an easy test which we may apply to ourselves to check our spiritual condition. Life needs no justification. If some thing exists, it deserves to be alive, because it is of God. All existence is rooted in God, and there is no existence apart from God. If we exist, it means that we are worthy to be alive. We have a divine purpose which should be discovered and expressed. There is nothing about existence to be sorry about. God made no mistake when we were brought into being. We need to love life, to be interested in life and its manifold activities. Let us never retreat from life, never wish to escape life and its responsibilities. Some people foolishly dream of dying and "going to be with the Lord". But in reality death will never make them closer to God than they are now. It will never make them happier than they are now. Life is eternal, and death is only a transition to another plane of life, which will be determined by our current life. Let us not wish to be somewhere else or somebody else. Life brought us - as we are - to the place where we are now. This is a holy place, where God is fully present, ready to be revealed. Where else should we go, and why? Life is best understood in wholeness. We should not take it apart, thinking that by analyzing just one isolated segment we will get true understanding. No, life is interconnected at its different levels. If we don't see those connections, life will often look like a chaos of random events.
Affirm that you are alive - fully alive. These are practical methods of staying in touch with the Spirit of Life.
