There is a spirit of restlessness within human beings, which
moves them toward deeper knowledge and higher expression of
themselves. Self-knowledge is not a requirement of some
philosophical or religious system, imposed on us from
the outside. It is natural. It grows from within. Living
in agreement with that divine urge makes us happy and fulfilled.
"What is man?" This question was asked over and over since
the beginning of the human race.
The Bible contains many glimpses of Truth. As we meditate
upon those texts, we realize how great people are. In
the very beginning, it says that people were created in
the image and likeness of God. Now, there are many different
opinions about the exact meaning of this phrase, "in the image
and likeness", but the point is made clear. Our true identity
is of God. We are God's offspring. We are called to live
with such awareness, allowing the truth of our divinity
to be fully unfolded.
"What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man,
that You visit him?"
"You are gods; and all of you sons of the Most High" (Psalm
82:6). Jesus quoted these words in the gospel of John,
confirming their truthfulness. Yes, human beings contain
within themselves infinite divine treasures, not even realizing
this!
And yet, there are alternative views on people and their
nature. Some religions would say that man is a worm, that
man is made of dust and to dust he will return. To this they
will add that man is a miserable sinner which shall be judged
by God lest he will repent. Perhaps, we were raised with
such convictions, and ever since our life was a battle with
a feeling of worthlessness.
The good news is that those negative pronouncements of church
leaders don't have to be accepted as the final truth.
The fact that a person makes mistakes doesn't make him/her
a miserable sinner. Our mistakes are due to the fact that
we are still in the process of development. We are evolving
toward greater manifestation of our divinity.
"Anyone who speaks of man as shameful, incomplete, forgotten,
or unworthy, have turned their face away from God the Father,
and are blind guides. Christ warns us of these people when
he says "Know the tree by the fruit". You do not have to
struggle with them or argue with them, but do not accept
their teachings or their judgments. They teach the children,
crying "Lord. Lord!" but they serve the devil of their being.
They will have their reward. Pray for God to bless them with
love, understanding, and wisdom, so they can be delivered
from their sin", wrote Brad Jensen.
Guilt and shame are counterproductive. As the Spirit guides
us to the fullness of life and creative self-expression, we
let go of those silly notions concerning God and human nature
which made us feel shameful and guilty before.
The idea that people are destined to be creators is proven
by experience. When a person is engaged in monotonous and
mechanical job, where his/her skills are not developed,
there is often a growing feeling of dissatisfaction and
frustration. People who are not using their talents easily
become tired, bored, and pessimistic. When it happens,
rather than spending their time and money in search for
excitement, they should seek for opportunities to be creative.
Creativity is our nature, but like other natural endowments
it must be cultivated. When visions of something great or
something which doesn't yet exist will come to us, let us
not dismiss them. They are seeds of new things, waiting
to come to become apparent through us. Let us remember
that every achievement once was non-existent, and even
looked unrealistic.
Creation requires mental discipline, ability to stay
focused on a particular idea we've chosen. Let us not
allow our thoughts to drift aimlessly.
As we know ourselves, we express ourselves, because
knowledge and expression are essentially one. When our
work is divinely inspired, we know ourselves as we really
are. Workable ideas concerning our nature are known by their
abundant fruits; those which are not workable wither and die.
