Spring is the great season of awakening in the world of nature.
It signifies our awakening to the deeper realization of our
true nature, and its bold and fearless expression. This is
why we celebrate Easter this time of the year.
We've been told that Jesus was risen from the dead by the power
of God, and sometimes the whole idea of resurrection seem to
us unbelievable. But the truth is, resurrection always happened
to us, and it will continue to happen in increased measure if
we will give it the proper attention. To put it briefly,
resurrection is the power to transcend. If we have ever made
a new beginning, if we have ever left the dead past behind
and stepped forward with faith and enthusiasm, if we have
ever experienced victory over negative mentality and
destructive habits, if we have ever trained our skills
and abilities into perfection, we have been resurrected.
I would like to say it again, without fear of repeating myself,
that resurrection is not an event. It is the process of
transcending of ourselves, of becoming greater than we are
now. The power of the resurrection within urges us forward
and upward. It helps us to break our mental inertia and
laziness, and to move to our true destiny freely and
unrestrictedly.
This is the message of Easter and the triumph of Jesus over
death. This is also the message of Jewish Passover and
the deliverance of the Israelites from the captivity of Egypt.
Speaking on Biblical symbolism, Rabbi Tzvi Freeman writes:
"In each one of us there is an Egypt and a Pharaoh and
a Moses and Freedom in a Promised Land. And every point in
time is an opportunity for another Exodus. Egypt is a place
that chains you to who you are, constraining you from growth
and change. And Pharaoh is that voice inside that mocks your
gambit to escape, saying, "How could you attempt being today
something you were not yesterday? Aren't you good enough just
as you are? Don't you know who you are?"
Although the message of Easter/Passover is for all of us, it
is especially significant for those individuals that find
themselves suffering, entangled by all kinds of bonds and
limitations. It is the announcement of their liberation.
It conveys to them the truth that there is the way to freedom,
to joy, to lasting and abiding happiness.
Just as Moses in the Bible lead out the children of Israel out
of Egypt into the Promised Land, so the Christ within leads
now all those who listen to His voice out of mental darkness
into the land of God's promised "abundant life".
Resurrection is not something that is arbitrary imposed on
life from the outside. It is the Life itself - the divine life
in its essence, which is also our life. As we accept the
consciousness of resurrection, we open ourselves to greater
inflow and outflow of that Life. We are made new in mind,
body, and spirit, and thus demonstrate the ultimate victory
of God.
