Love and Wholeness
By Andrei Yashurin

During the last part of the twentieth century there was a dramatic rise of holistic medicine that emphasized the necessity of looking at the whole person rather than an isolated function or organ. Gradually, people come to an understanding that permanent health cannot be obtained simply by taking pills or even undergoing surgeries. Physical and chemical methods of treatment could be good and effective, but not good enough. There is a greater need: there is a throughout spiritual mental work that should be done in the process of growing into wholeness.

In truth, there is nothing new in holistic approach. Many centuries before development of modern medical science, Scriptures taught about deep connectedness between human body, soul, and spirit. Even more, those books taught that the most powerful healing influence is the spiritual one.

It is not easy to give a short definition of what is "spirit", or "spiritual realm". But for the convenience I prefer to call it the realm of causes. This is the most important reason why we cannot avoid spiritual approaches, whether we call them that way or not. It is impossible to solve our life's problems successfully as long as we stay at the level of effects. True causes should be discerned and dealt with.

The Bible tells us that God is love. Idea of love as the most essential characteristic of Divine nature leads us to a conclusion that the whole life (which emanates from God, the Source) is built upon love. When we understand this, we no longer think of love as a side issue. It becomes clear why Jesus emphasized love so often. Loving attitude proves to be in harmony with life's fundamental principles. By trying to shut ourselves from love, we only bring harm to ourselves.

Catherine Ponder writes in her book "The Dynamic Laws of Healing":

"Disease often results from a violation of the law of love. Thoughts of hate generate a deadly poison in the body, which, if not neutralized, can even produce death. Love cleanses the mind and body of these hates that accumulate in the form of resentment, criticism, sorrow, remorse, guilt, fear, anger, jealousy. Affirmations of love change these killing thoughts into life thoughts. Affirmations of love bring peace to the mind and body".

Absence of love results in sickness and pain, but the opposite is true, too. Love is the powerful healing agent. When we read accounts of Jesus' ministry, we notice that He "was moved with compassion (which is love)" to perform works of healing and restoration. The principle of healing love that the Master applied two thousand years ago is unchangeable. It is ready to be called upon and to be brought into operation by us.

"There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer; no disease that enough love will not heal; no door that enough love will not open; no gulf that enough love will not bridge; no wall that enough love will not throw down, no sin that enough love will not redeem", says Emmet Fox.

Allow the Christ in you to extend pure and unconditional love toward all parts of your being, and you will experience the new level of wholeness and abundance - the one you never knew before. Consciously cooperate with the flow of that love.

Love yourself, and speak words of love to yourself out loud.

For some people, a thought of loving themselves sounds ridiculous. To them, it implies a form of pride and selfishness. But, examining the matter closely enough, we will find that their conclusions are wrong. Selfishness is rooted in deep insecurity of an individual who tries to exalt and promote himself/herself by all possible means. But, being genuinely loving, we don't act this way. Love sees all people (including ourselves) as immensely valuable and important - just as they are. Love assures us that we deserve all God's blessings simply by the right of our existence. There is no competition in the Realm of Love. This is the greatest security the one can think of.

Affirm: "I deserve health. It is good and right for me to be whole, strong, and full of radiant energy. I claim my health now".
