Love and Its Challenges: Partiality
By Andrei Yashurin

Love is built into the nature of things, so by this definition it cannot be partial. It is freely extended to all and accessible by all. When it seems that any particular condition does not reflect the love of God, we need to understand that the problem is not in God and not in love, but in our incorrect perception. We don't see the whole picture. We look at a surface, but not in the heart of a given situation. It would be good for people to pray for removal of their spiritual blindness, so that they could behold love manifested in all the creation.

The key to human troubles and sufferings is found not in some lack of divine love, but in lack of awareness of that love.

Unfortunately, it is common for believers to see God as partial, whether consciously or unconsciously. They often assume that the Creator prefers one group of people over the other, or one race over the other. They think and speak in terms of "us" and "them". In their minds, "us" are "chosen ones", "righteous ones", and "them" are "lost ones", "ungodly ones", and so on. To support their convictions, they may skillfully pick up Bible verses.

When it comes to the Bible, however, we need to realize that even its authors struggled with some of ideas, expressed by Jesus. There are no reasons to think that after being for three years with their Master, apostles walked in the fullness of Truth until the end of their lives, and everything for them was plain and clear. No, no. We have sincere records which prove that they stumbled and failed in their understanding.

The universality of God and God's love was a challenge for them, just like it is a challenge for mainstream Christianity in our days. But, it is my deep conviction that as long as this misunderstanding exists, the teaching of Christ won't be able to fully demonstrate its healing and restoring power on earth.

We are to emphasize oneness, not separation. It has been said that Jesus destroyed the mental "middle wall of partition" which separated humankind from God, and people from each other. We should do likewise, if we are willing to continue His work on earth.

The truth of all-encompassing love of God is offensive for many of religionists, and I've learned from experience that there is nothing that could be done about it. You can't explain love to one, as you would explain how to work with a computer. You can't prove love to one, as you would prove a mathematical law to a student. Love can be only revealed. And this revelation is certainly worth having!

I pray so that all who read this message could get deeper revelation of divine love. I intentionally mention "deeper", because we all know the love of God to some degree. But let not our current knowledge ever stop us from striving for more.

In a time of prayer, you may center your attention on heart, and quietly affirm: "Love of God, be revealed to me! Be manifested in me and through me!" You may surprisingly find this method to be much more effective than praying for things or particular changes.

Paul prayed for believers in Ephesus, asking God to reveal them the greatness of love. We can use his words for ourselves, too.

"That you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height,
and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God".

Ephesians 3:17-19

Divine love "passes knowledge", or exceeds our understanding. From a limited human standpoint, some people might think that God would be unjust by loving all, accepting all, and blessing all. But such thinking is not different from jealous grumblings of the elder brother from the parable of the prodigal son. But why do they indulge in this negativity instead of coming in and joining the party?
