An account of creation that we see in the Bible reveals
that the whole world was spoken into existence by God,
in successive stages. "Without Him (Logos, or creative Word),
not even one thing came into being that has come into
being" (John 1:3). Therefore, words played the key part
in bringing Divine ideas into visible manifestation.
"He spoke, and it was done; Hr commanded, and it stood"
(Psalm 33:9).
But how can we apply this fact of existence?
The story of creation is meant to teach us that all words
are creative agents. Words are not just mere means of
communication, as they are commonly regarded. By treating
them in such an inferior way, we underestimate their power
and influence, and often, unknowingly, cause harm to ourselves.
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those
who love it shall eat the fruit of it" (Proverbs 18:21).
Spiritual understanding brings to us the realization that
this statement is not a mere allegory. It is literally true.
We make things and circumstances from inside out. We speak
them out into being. Words, especially if they are uttered
with a firm conviction and strong feelings behind them
(no matter what is their nature), affect the realm of causes
and activate invisible powers, which in due time manifest
desirable or undesirable results.
When Jesus cursed a fig tree, it died at roots, although
nothing happened on the outside. The next morning, a tree
dried. Some people doubt that their words are powerful because
they fail to see their effects over a period of time. Being
observant, we are able to trace all events to their causes,
which are always spiritual.
Let us not hesitate, therefore, to use words for building
up, enriching, and directing of our lives the way we would
like it to happen. Hidden riches of the universe will be ours
when we will make conscious efforts to claim and to appropriate
them, using all the creative methods provided by God.
"You shall order a thing, and it shall be fulfilled to you"
(Job 22:28).
This verse gives a simple plan of action. First, we need be
definite about what we want to experience.
There are many people around us that dream of better life
for themselves and their loved ones, but those dreams never
come true for one simple reason: their ideas of "better life"
are too vague. They are not definite about what they want
of life. Let us not repeat this common mistake.
Second, we need to speak our mind out. We need to order things
into being.
Our positive, affirmative words are seeds. As wise farmers,
we plant them exactly where want to see increase, and then wait
for the harvest. Desired results will come. We may not know
exactly how it will happen, but there is no need to know.
Let this "ordering" be done in secret, as we consciously enter
into the presence of God. Talking to God, it would be vain
to crawl and to beg. Realizing the dignity of who we are,
understanding tremendous powers and possibilities at our
disposal, we thank the Creator for being able to create in
union with Him.
Third, we need to be ready to accept our answer as it comes.
Receptivity is a skill that must be developed, too. Some things
and events that enter into our lives in response to affirmative
words are but forerunners of things and events to come, not
final manifestations. For example, I've read about a woman
that prayed for a dish set, and few days after was given one
dish that was old and cracked. At first it disappointed her,
but later she became grateful for "a sign" of a desired good.
In a short time, she received the full dish set.
"In due season we shall reap, if we do not faint"
(Galatians 6:9), wrote Paul. Even if it seems that our
manifestation delays, let us not turn back to negative talk.
Persistent ones win. It is good to remember that some seeds
grow faster than the others, but they all grow and bring
forth the harvest.
