The Information Channel Felist.Com -*-------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNITY WAY August 3, 2003 ------------------------------------------------------ Search for the Truth: Hunger and Fulfillment By Andrei Yashurin We started with a statement that seeking nature is built within each individual. Hunger among humans is universal. At first it looks like this hunger has to with the outside things - money, possessions, power and influence, achievements, relationships, and so on. But, as we grow and mature, it becomes clear that at the root of those superficial desires lies in one fundamental urge for the ultimate Truth and Meaning. We find that the statement of Jesus is profoundly true: "Man shall not live by bread alone (or, what the manifested world may offer), but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (living ideas what come from the only Source)" (Matthew 4:4). There is "the bread which comes down from heaven", "the hidden manna" we all may partake to be fully alive and fulfilled - the Truth of God. As we search for it, we shall discover it, no matter what could be our obstacles, for in our quest we are guided by the Spirit which knows no limitations. In all nations, in all religious groups, among all social classes, in all ages, every sincere seeker of the Truth finds it. To think otherwise would mean to restrict the Creator to human boundaries and to call God a liar. "Or what man is there of you, if his son asks a loaf, will he give him a stone?" Matthew 7:9 This saying shows us another important aspect of the Truth: it is not static or dead. It is alive - that's why it is life-giving. Stones can be likened to religious and philosophical dogmas - crystallized thoughts of individuals who became authority figures for their followers. Because of great spiritual achievements of those people, now they are looked at with great reverence and admiration - up to the point where others are encouraged to accept their revelations as final and complete. Let us not fall into this trap. Stones are not bread. They may be a good weapon (remember the story of David killing Goliath), but they cannot give nourishment. Bread represents living substance - the one which feeds us, enabling us to grow. Have you ever thought that a request "give us this day our daily bread" from the Lord's Prayer could mean more than asking for natural provision? Do you see that unless people are fed by true spiritual understanding, they get hungry - in the deepest meaning of this word? Bread represents new opportunities of learning which God constantly presents to each individual. Truth becomes real for us only when we apply it for solving of problems and dealing with challenges. Unless our understanding undergoes a throughout practical test, we cannot confidently say that it is authentic. In the realm of Truth, there is no place for idle dreamers and talkers. Truth is not a toy, it is a tool. Truth is given not for amusement, but as an instrument for building of our lives. Truth is not to be worshiped, it is to be put to work. All those who hunger and thirst, shall be filled. Therefore, hunger proves to be among greatest blessings we may experience. Somebody said that completely satisfied person is a complete failure, and I tend to agree. None of us achieved all that is possible for us, no matter what our past and current successes could be. There should be no halts in our progressive development. We strive, we reach out upward and forward, and find the fulfillment. And then, we are ready to strive and reach out again - at a new level. "In My Father's house are many mansions" (John 14:2), said Jesus. In other words, in the realm of God's Kingdom there are many levels on which we can experience Truth. Starting from where we are now, we may go higher. Our journey is eternal - just as God is eternal. "I believe that the ultimate truth about the world and about you and about me is so great and wonderful that whatever I may think it to be, it is yet more", writes James Dillet Freeman, expressing the same idea in a beautiful way. ------------------------------------------------------ http://unityway.net/zine Positive Christianity E-zine If you like our list, please recommend it to others.
