The Information Channel Felist.Com -*-------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNITY WAY March 2, 2003 ------------------------------------------------------ What is Truth? By Andrei Yashurin While I analyzed traffic to my web site, I made an interesting observation: most of people that are coming to it through search engines, are looking for one particular phrase. These are the words of Jesus: "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Since the subject of truth proved to be so attractive, I decided to take time and to describe what the Truth means for me. I like to call myself "a student of Truth", because it is the most adequate description of who I am. I dedicated myself to search for the highest and the best, and I know that this search will continue as long as I live - and beyond - because Truth is greater than me. I know that no matter how my understanding will expand in the future, there will always be something more to know. The Truth is endless, just like God is endless. I believe that when Jesus commanded "seek, and you will find", He spoke of the way, not of the destination. We shall know the truth, and it shall make us free - but then, there will be more truth for to realize in order to experience greater freedom. I am not willing to substitute Truth with a set of once-for-all formulated statements, because they won't lead me far enough. It is important to think of our life in terms of growing from truth to truth, from truth which is lower to truth which is higher. I agree with Charles Fillmore, who wrote that Truth is "the Absolute, that which accords with God as divine principle". We may say that it is the Law of Being - or the whole complex of laws and principles, by which all things work. Finding the Truth is a matter of highest importance, not a luxury, but a necessity. Not knowing the Truth, we often may go against the flow of the Universal Life, and get hurt. Truth takes us beyond facts, beyond appearances. It opens our eyes to the things which are not seen with human eyes, "for the things which are seen are not lasting, but the things which are not seen are everlasting" (2 Corinthians 4:18). Truth is the realm of pure divine ideas. And yet, this realm is open to all who want to enter. From the words of Jesus we know that Truth is practical. It always demonstrates itself. It you abide in Truth, you become free - free from limitations, both self-imposed and imposed by others. Through the knowledge of Truth, a person gains power to live happy, abundant, and creative life - the one which is our true destiny. So, when I hear someone who claims to know the Truth, but continues to suffer under a heavy burden, I suspect that he/she does not know what he/she is talking about. Truth is meant to manifest itself as freedom here and now, not at some distant future. Now is the day of our salvation, if we are to be saved at all. As I share the Truth that I know with all who are willing to listen, I encourage to put my words to the test, just as I put them to the test myself. "Prove all things" is one of the best advises the Scripture gives us. Blind faith is not God-ordained. Believing someone just because we think that he/she is a real expert, or because we know that he/she lives a saintly life, gives us a shallow foundation. The best proof of any statement is our experience. Finding the Truth and living the Truth is a personal business. Truth speaks in different languages, and arrays itself in different clothes in order to be available for people everywhere. It is such a pity to see some groups trying to monopolize the Truth, or to claim it as their own property. In reality, there is not a single person on earth who is a stranger to the Truth. Some people may be wrong in some areas, but nobody could be wrong in all. Truth is what we are made of, wherever we consciously aware of it or not. ------------------------------------------------------ Andrei Yashurin: admin@unityway.net http://unityway.net/zine Positive Christianity E-zine If you like our list, please recommend it to others.
