Part II By Andrei Yashurin
A beautiful description of a person who is "not of this world"
can be found in Psalm 1.
Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of
the ungodly, and has not stood in the
way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of the scornful.
Blessed is the person who does not share ignorant and blind
beliefs of the human race. Blessed is the one who does not
participate in vain and useless activities, those that drain
our energy, hamper our potential and lead us nowhere.
But his delight is only in the Law of Jehovah; and in His Law
he meditates day and night.
Blessed is the person that finds the Source of life, the Way
of life, the Law of life within himself (herself). This is
what the Psalm is about. We may appreciate the Bible as God's word,
but it is exceedingly better to realize that the true Book of Life
is written within our hearts. As we commune with God, and
daily meditate upon truths revealed to us by Him, we tap into
the stream of infinite love, wisdom, and power.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivulets of water
that brings forth its fruit in its seasons, and its leaf shall
not wither.
Blessed is the person that is rooted in God, and does not depend
on circumstances. Even if he (she) lives in a spiritually dry
place, he (she) can be spiritually and mentally refreshed.
Even his (her) body and respond to dominating thoughts of
divine wholeness. Through the power of faith, he (she) is made well.
And all which he does shall be blessed.
When we are consciously connected with God, we prosper in all
the things we do - not because we are more talented, or smarter
than others, but because we are strengthened and inspired by God.
When our works are done in God, we cannot be less than
divinely successful. We know when and how to strike. We do not
misuse our energy in fruitless efforts, trying to do the things
which are not right for us. We become divinely effective, and
this can be evident to all the people around us.
Being like a tree, we are willing to grow.
The whole world is our home - visible one, and invisible one,
the one that is revealed, and the one that is hidden. We grow
both branches and roots. They do not oppose to each other - they
belong to each other. Heaven and earth join in us and around us.
Once I heard a story about an old saint from the Middle East,
who never read the Bible, except for Psalm 1, because as soon
as he read it, he decided that now he had enough to practice
until the rest of his life. And so he did, quite successfully.
This story sounds funny to us, especially if we hunger for
an intellectual knowledge more than for transformed life.
And yet, it bears much significance. The Scripture is so alive,
that often the single passage, when realized in all of its
deepness, can provide us a blueprint for construction of
a happy and blessed life.
Blessing is a choice. Be blessed!
