One of the hindrances to people's healing is their wrong
concept of what the body is. When I hear how believers
describe it as weak, carnal, and subject to sin, I understand
why it is difficult for some of them to restore health.
The words of Paul show me a different approach. Addressing
his epistle to Corinthians, who were known for their immoral
behavior, he rebuked them for abusing their bodies for
following reason:
"Do you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
who is in you? Therefore glorify God in your body and in your
spirit" (1 Corinthians 6:19,20).
It is sad to say, but many Christians in our days still do not
realize this truth.
In order to establish a positive attitude to your body in your
mind, use following affirmations:
My body is a beautiful channel of expression of all my God-given qualities; My body is charged with divine energy that enables me to glorify God and fulfill my call. History knows examples of believers, who treated their bodies with harshness, going into extremes of asceticism and self-mutilation. Their intentions were good and sincere, because, according to their understanding of the Scripture, it was a legitimate way to serve God. However, detailed study shows that passages in Galatians 5 and Romans 8, where it says about "the works of the flesh" and "living according to the flesh" in a negative way, actually deal not with bodies, but with certain mental attitudes! There are people who leave behind wisdom and ethical standards in a compulsive search for pleasures, and the Bible warns about destructiveness of their behavior. On the other hand, the Spirit of God wants to make us whole and integrated persons. His intention is not to limit or to repress us, but to provide us the safe boundaries to enjoy life in its fullest and to express ourselves. We are called to "present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy, acceptable to God, for our reasonable service" (Romans 12:1). Bodily health allows us to be active in fulfilling of our mission. And if some sickness or disease bowed us down, we can trust that His life-giving Spirit will infuse the new life to our limbs, and we will rise up and walk again.
