They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yields their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all they do, they prosper. Psalm 1:1-3 In meditation, we do not make our minds "blank". We concentrate on God. We concentrate on His Truth. We make conscious efforts to "abide in His Truth", and, by doing that, we allow this Truth to set us free from all the burdens and self-imposed limitations. The Truth of the gospel is given to each of us freely, but there is also a responsibility upon us to appropriate this Truth, to make it a living and abiding reality in our hearts and minds. The problem with so many believers is that they have time only to utter their requests to God, but they ignore the need to develop their faith. The natural result of such an approach is that their petitions often remain fruitless, and it causes them to grow in doubts and confusion. If you want your prayer life to be productive, remember a simple secret: spend more time meditating on the Divine Truth than you usually spend in asking God to do something. Never rush to ask God. He will take care of you, dont question this fact. However, He expects you to grow in faith. Do your part, develop a spiritual consciousness, and God will do His part. There are some aspects of meditation upon Gods Truth that we need to consider: First, never let the meditation become an obligation for you. Let the time you spend alone in Gods presence be a time of delight. Let it be a communion of love and not a business meeting. "Their delight is in the law of the Lord". Second, know that the Truth of God is in the law of God. By the law, of course, we do not mean Jewish, or even Christian, ceremonies and rituals. We need to remind ourselves that God established certain spiritual principles that are always active in the world. Those principles will work for everyone who discover and faithfully apply them, because God is not partial. Third, it is important to meditate upon Gods Truth "day and night", in other words, meditation has to become our habit. Occasional meditations wont build our faith and wont transform our life. Finally, do not look for special spiritual experiences. Do not seek special visitations or revelations from God. Allow God to work in you in His own way. Know that He transforms you even when you dont realize it. Dont be disappointed it if you cant witness a rapid progress. Be patient. Trust Him. There will come a time when youll be amazed to discover how different you are now from what you used to be! "In all that they do, they prosper" (Psalm 1:3), says the Bible about those who faithfully abide in Truth. Isnt it exactly what we want for ourselves? ------------------------------------------------------ Unity, or Unity School of Christianity, is a positive philosophy of life, based on teachings of Jesus Christ.
